Default Tensioner

Hey guys had more 968 now for the summer, was pretty busy so didn’t have much time but I did notice an odd/ loud tick from the front of the engine
it seems like it’s coming from the automatic tensioner, it only happens at low rpm around 1600-2100. It’s smooths out and stays quiet after that
I took the covers off and seemed to have tracked it down to that spot.

after looking online these are NLA, is there a current solution to this or out of luck if these fail now. What do we do?

How did the belts look? I’m no expert, but I can’t imagine what would make the tensioner tick, unless there was an anomaly on the belt that was causing it to move every revolution. As I understand it, all it does is put a constant pressure on the belt.

I agree that the tensioner would not likely tick. A roller maybe. The belt for sure needs to be in good shape. A balance shaft could tick with a faulty bearing and there is a balance shaft very close to that. I just can't imagine that the tensioner is creating the tick. It might sound like that's how to noise is being made, but I would think the source is something else.

I will try and take a video today. Before I got the car it had the timing belt changed. I have to double check the receipts I believe all the pulleys were changed.
I don’t no where or who did the work on that I just have a receipt for parts

Ok I tried to upload a video of the sound. Like I said at low rpm this sound happens and the tensioner really starts to compress at that specific time, every time

Yep, your tensioner is shot... It is not doing its job.

You might also pull the plugs and rotate the engine with a wrench to see if there are tight spots.
