Default 968 resonator replacement

I cannot believe a new one is 2200 dollars, the shop that looked at it said he has had too many bring backs on aftermarket replacements. I am fearful of straight pipe as I do not want drone. Any suggestions?

TIA

First of all, what is the issue with the resonator? Mine had a crack at the front that was (obviously) causing an exhaust leak. I had exhaust system removed, and a guy came and did mobile TIG welding to seal the crack.

I would not be afraid of a used one and they pop up for sale with some regularity. I seem to remember one on Pelican just a couple of weeks ago but I can't find it now. It was in the Charlotte area. Also you might want to contact John Sheiry. He has parted a bunch of 968s.

Everyone I mentioned is east coast and you are west coast, but I'm sure that since 1/2 of the 968s landed in California, many have been parted there. I hope this helps.

Thanks Cliff. I have a few but as he said Im in VA. Lart is in CA and LA Dismantlers who sells on Ebay probably have one. They dont list them on Ebay as they dont want to ship them but contact either one and Im sure you could pick one up.

Thank you-all.

I contacted Luis ( Lart ) as we are old friends from my 951 and he is checking. I didn't know LA Dismantlers was still in business, heard they had some issues. I will check.

Also found a company in Canada that sells triangle shaped universal ones as well, could be a fall back.

I knew with the 968 my aftermarket would be severely limited, I have had the worst luck with aftermarket full and cat-back systems except for Akropovic but that's not even an application possibility.

When I write up my adventure with this 968 it will be an interesting tale. I am pretty convinced at this point I have replaced every damn mechanical thing of note and the engine, under-carriage ( all vapor cleaned as well) is about as good as a 67k mile example can be. It started with a broken odometer....21k later.

You are referring to Billy Boat. He mentioned wanting no drone - I suppose that's why no one mentioned BB or any of the other aftermarkets

Funny you mentioned Akropovic. I contacted them and asked if they made anything for the 968, they just laughed....
I do wish the stock one was a bit lighter and a bit louder, so what.

I had their system on my A90 Supra and now on my G80 M3, I really like it. I had a teacart system on my Cayman GTS I liked a lot as well...everything else has been either obnoxious or annoying.

I cannot believe I cannot just find a standard resonator to replace this 30 year old lump.

Genuine muffler with resonator is about 1650$ from Porsche, not bad considering that a rudimentary aftermarket catback costs 1450$ from BB.

What's this "company in Canada that sells triangle shaped universal ones"?

For what it’s worth, I used a Billy Boat cat-back system on a 968 cab and didn’t particularly notice drone.
The car is actually a bit noisy in the first place (mostly road noise, and secondarily wind) which may well mask some added drone. Perhaps coupes are more quiet.
To me the BB system isn’t drastically louder than stock, but does allow some lower bass tones come through.
