Default Headlight Retaining Ring?

So what is this part under the headlight?

Looks like I have another part to order. Looking at Pelican Parts, it's the headlight retaining ring. That sound right?

It's trim. Hides the gap that would otherwise exist. Very under-designed. I don't think that I have ever disassembled a car that at least one piece wasn't broken.

That seems like another piece that would benefit from 3D printing.

Good luck

Both of mine are missing - I would definitely be interested if someone 3d printed a new set.

They do get brittle over time and stress crack. The headlight retaining ring is two pieces. One larger piece on bottom and then one smaller piece on top. Looks like in pic your bottom piece is broken. About $96 for the large lower piece and $72 for the smaller upper piece at Delaware Porsche new. The lower piece is a bit of a pain to install as you need to nearly dis-assemble the entire headlight mounting bracket to remove that lower piece. Be careful when removing the outer headlight surround plastic as those will snap if you attempt to "spread too far".

Is Delaware Porsche a Classic dealer? That price is cheaper than Pelican parts.

They are not a classic dealer to my knowledge but here is a link to their internet parts site. https://www.delawareporscheparts.com/

Couple of advantages I have found from Delaware...

1 Best margins of all on line dealers that I have found... Beats Sunset, Marin, Pelican, etc...Tried to give my business to local dealer but they would not match it. Prefer to shop local.
2 No sales tax (Delaware)
3 If your on the East coast you avoid much of the parts shuttling back and forth across the country as there is a big parts warehouse in Atlanta & PA. Then the item comes from Delaware which is 1 day ground freight typically. (They do not drop ship from P warehouses so if the item is in PA warehouse and you order from Sunset then it goes across the country ground to Sunset then ground back to me)
4 Always helpful and sends me an email if item is delayed or needs to come from Germany

Good luck. Your mileage may vary.....

Another online option is Gaudin Porsche in Las Vegas. They are a Classic dealer and have very good prices on parts. If you remove that part, you can most likely just use some epoxy to glue it back together. I did that with mine, had it repainted and it looks and works fine.

Hey all, Know I haven't been around much in a while but I just moved houses and know I have some of these in my parts pile. Most likely they are cracked but you can re-glue or bond them. I've done it before. If you are interested I can out my hands on them. For those of you who know me from years past I still have alot of parts from the cars I've built and used for parts. Would be happy to help out.

Cheers, Mike

I’ll second Gaudin Porsche for you left coasties. When I finally decided on going with OEM replacement of my shocks and struts, they beat every outlet on the internet on price, some by several hundred dollars.
