My heater has been stuck on full since I got the car. If you drive with the fan on 'o' and the windows / roof open you don't really notice. But at some point I'd like the option of cruising along in air-conditioned style and comfort.
I checked out this page from Clark's Garage and I think I've found the problem - or at least part of the problem. Because, looking under my own dash, there's clearly a control rod missing - see pic below.
Can anyone enlighten me on what this should look like, where the control rod should connect to, and how easy / difficult it's going to be to fix?
If you're on the small side and flexible, probably not too bad. Since I'm on the opposite of those adjectives, it was sort of unpleasant. Here's a great RL link, with some pictures: https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...r-blowing.html
There is (was?, I dunno what's happening over there right now) also a reasonable thread over on the bird site, but I don't know if linking to that here is totally kosher.
Thanks - great link. Unfortunately in my case it's not that the clip has failed ... the clip is still there, but the control rod that should be clipped into it is AWOL. And PET doesn't, unfortunately, appear to go into that level of detail.
Perhaps some kind soul would be willing to contort themselves under their dash (or at least shove a cellphone under there) to help me figure out what's missing, and where it should connect to?
Dang, apologies. I thought that one of the part numbers shown on the picture was for the rod itself. For what it's worth, I don't think that there's anything special about it and you can probably just use a length of threaded rod as a replacement.
None of which helps with your basic question about where the missing rod goes.
If no one responds I'll try to get you a picture from my car, but there's a cover that is sort of a PITA to remove; there's a screw that really required me to be on my back with my head deep in the footwell to remove. Maybe that's a nice job for one of my kids, now that summer vacation has started...

I will take a couple pics and bring to the cars and coffee on Saturday
I will bring you that missing rod on Saturday morning with the lever/screw it attaches too. Perhaps you could bring me that old brake reservoir we spoke about ??
