Allen, you should have 12 volts on each of the 2 low voltage terminals of the coil when ignition key is on. the small black wire gets the 12v from the key switch. the 12v on the green wire comes from through the internal coil winding that is connecting to the other terminal (with the small black wire).
the green wire supplies the coil with the ground pulses from the DME computer when the engine is turning. this 'pulsing' current flows through the coil sending very high voltage to the distributor (the timing of which obviously is controlled by the DME). I would be very surprised if putting a ground on that green wire did any damage...and btw, I have read those weasel words too...I think Bosch does not want aftermarket alarms connected to their kit, hmmm...do you have one?
