Aftermarket oil temp sensor location and oil pan/case plugs
A previous owner of my 968 added an aftermarket oil temp/pressure sensor, but used the drain plug as the location for the sensor, which (as you might imagine) makes oil changes a bit tricky. See sensor/plug removed for oil draining during change below:
Oil temp sensor drilled into drain plug.
I noticed that on the opposite side of the case there is another plug located higher up (shown below) - what is the purpose of this plug and is it also going into the oilpan (higher up)? Wondering if I can use the opposite plug during changes (with a pump to get oil lower than plug out) OR relocate the sensor over to this other plug.
Thoughts?

That's used on the turbo engines for the oil return. Some of the later 968 pans don't even have the hole. I would try the sensor there. The oil level should be high enough. Not sure what the size of the hole or the threads are.
