Question Headlights

Hi there,

I have a quick question about the 968's headlights. I read the other day that the 944 headlight units are the same as that on the Mk.2 golf. I was wondering if the 968's lights are shared with any other porsche or non-porsche model?

The reason I ask is I have a LHD 968cs here in the UK and obviously the headlight dipping direction is wrong. I have looked at prices for new light units are they are about double that of 944/928 etc.

Any tips/answers appreciated.

cheers,
MH.

Question

Hi,

Would also like to confirm whether there is no method of changing the headlight dipping direction apart from changing the whole light unit.

Some headlights you can just rotate them. I remember we did this on my fathers ferrari. That headlight had little arrows embossed on the headlight glass however pointing both left and right, indicating that the light could be set to dip either way.

any info would be great

Have you tried posting on porsche968uk.co.uk, few more brits on there who may have done the same thing.

Also give Simon at Porshapart a ring, they may have some 2nd hand units in stock.

MH,

Cannot be absolutely sure, but think that your only recourse is to fit RHD lamps.

I know about the 944 ones being able to be replaced by non-porsche parts and it would be great to think that there is a cheaper option for the 968 as the replacement costs are pretty hefty.

If you have not done so already, drop in on http://www.porsche968uk.co.uk/ as Mike suggested. It's a very good and friendly forum.

Did you know that there is a big water cooler meet at PCGB HQ this Sunday? A lot of the 968 guys are going to be there.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll have a try on the 968uk forum as you suggested.

I did have a thought that maybe the lights are shared with the 928 and they do look pretty damn similar but I have sneaking feeling thats just me wishing for a cheaper solution!

Do know about the watercooler meet this w/e... unfortunately my w/e is going to be spent putting the brakes back on (just completed a caliper rebuild and repaint - new stainless thrust plates).. also trying to get new quicksilver stainless exhaust on hopefully.. Its been an inanimate object in the garage for about 4 weeks now so really looking forward to getting it back in working order!

cheers

New-design headights–State of the art projector type headlights employ a variable focal point system which increases light outputat the sides by more than 30 percent.
This from Porsche 968 promotional material. I don't think you'll find parts in common with other cars- at least not older, cheaper ones.
