Default Question about cam cover gasket

Hey guys, got a question about that little rubber o-ring and paper gasket at the top of the cam cover where the Variocam label is. I’ve replaced both once myself and then had them replaced again by a shop when some top end engine work was done. The problem is it still leaks, and the oil migrates over to spark plug holes 3 & 4 and perhaps down to the plugs.

What is it that I’m doing wrong or not doing? Torque specs? I can’t find any specs but imagine it’s only around 6-8 lbs of torque. Please chime in if you know, thank you.

there are 4 gaskets in the spark plug holes. probably the cause.

get the kit that includes the cover gasket, the spark plug gaskets and the rubber seals for the mounting fasteners.

i torque the cover then tighten the vario-cam seal plate.

inspect the hall sensor wires while the cover is off.

May not be your issue but I managed to produce a leak there that I thought was the gasket but turned out to be a damaged o ring. I somehow caught it when sliding the alloy housing and o ring down the variocam unit, took more care the second time,
