Default Crusty, deteriorated foam bits

When IO took my door panels off to replace the rotting handle gaskets, I noticed the foam pads behind the door latch were... well, not in the best of shape.

So I'm replacing those too.

Watch at 2x speed. It's slow...for some reason, my laser cut every line twice.

That is awesome that you have access to equipment like that....I just had to buy one of those and they are still available for those of us without industrial cutting equipment. https://www.sonnenporscheoemparts.co...eal-477831304a

I also had to purchase the entire clear door seal (sticker) that sorta seals the door window and motor as it had become so brittle that it broke in several pieces when attempting to pull off.

18 bucks?!?!?

wow.

I could replicate these by the hundreds. And any foam pieces under 12x18. Bought my laser for making guitar pickup parts last year.

Can you cut like a 24x4x2 foam pad with that? I need one for my Ferrari. Mine just crumbled to pieces.

For a Ferrari?
That'll be.. mumblemumble...carry the one.... five thousand bucks, please.

My cutting bed is only 18 inches long, but I might be able to fold the material halfway into the cut and get a few extra inches, or cut it in two pieces.
I haven't tried to cut two inch thick foam yet, but I should be able to, in two passes.

Is it just a straight 24 long by 4 wide, and 2 inch thick? What kind of foam?

It's a long piece of foam that stickers to the hood and when you close the hood it sits on top of the radiator, I think to keep the airflow directed into the radiator only.
I'll take pics today.

Ahha, I see. That, I might be wary about. I'm sure whatever foam they're using has some serious heat resistance to it. I'm got a foam supplier here that I'll inquire with, though.
I'm sure it's very dense, right?

Yea it was kinda weird. It's a common issue after all these years and mine was perfect, or so I thought. Then a couple days ago it was all just laying there in pieces.

John:

Quick question re: the clear door seal. Assuming that you're referring to the plastic seal that goes under the door card and covers almost the entire door panel, with some kind of adhesive backing -- if you bought this from Porsche, did it come precut, or did they just sell you a piece of clear plastic?
On the Pet, it's just a poor representation, and the parts guys I've talked with don't know whether it comes precut or not; they've never sold one.
If I have to trim it myself, there are other options, but if it's ready to mount, it would save me a lot of trouble.
Information would be most appreciated.

It is precut and has peel off paper and fully adhesive backed. Fit like a glove. Delaware Porsche is where I oredered mine (for east coast guys there margins are like Sonnen but you get much quicker). It had to come from Germany and took an extra week or so but well worth the wait as the old one was brittle and quite frankly full of mold. (made me wash out and check all bottom door drains for debris)

Thanks for the response. Again, most appreciated.
