Default Replacing immobilizer

Just bought a 2000 986 a few months ago and it got some water damage to the immobilizer. Sadly, the board is trashed and has to be replaced. Hoping to tackle this myself because I can't afford to pay someone at the moment. Has anyone attempted a bypass for the immobilizer? When you install a new immobilizer, it appears that you have to also install a new ignition along with a new key as well? What do you have to do to sync them up once installed?
