Preparing to change the transmission fluid as part of my clean-up for my can and I am perplexed. Option code on my car states it has an LSD. Just to make sure all was right I read thoroughly about changing the transmission fluid on the car and every article says that the drain hole and the fill hole are located on the driver's side of the transmission. Not on my car. Has the drain on the bottom as you can see in the pictures. Also, when spinning a wheel the other spins in the opposite direction indicating that it is a non-LSD. Below are pics of the numbers on the case. Anyone know what's going on?

Those are the standard G44 fill and drain plugs. Porsche sold most "LSD" 968's with Torsen style diffs. These will not test the same as a clutch based LSD. Likely it is a Torsen style diff in yours.

What is not normal are the welds visible on your transmission case.

Well I changed the diff fluid but yes, those welds are there. Something happened in a past life but the operation has not been affected. I was worried that the LSD was removed or something but happy that is not the case.

The 2 behind G44 00 designates a 220 code trans / LSD. An open diff 968 would have a 1 in that position. As the other poster stated, Porsche only used the ZF (clutch type) diff in the '92 year. This is the only 968 diff which will spin both wheels in one direction when tested with the vehicle raised. All '93 and up are the Torsen which will check as if it's an open diff.

Appreciate the insight into all of this. I incorrectly thought someone had swapped out the LSD for an open type. As for the repairs, who knows what happened. But the transmission shifts perfectly and all seems good.
