Old airbags vs an old dash?
I'm considering a custom leather restoration of my 1992 dash. The final result would "look" much better if I started with an early non-airbag dash IMHO.
I'm already running a Club Sport steering wheel for it's look and feel.....so no airbag on my side. A Google search about the integrity of 25 year old airbags was not fruitful .....Mercedes had a 15 year replacement requirement for their early 90's cars....but many articles I found say that 25 year old airbags will probably work just fine. Has anyone else worked through this choice?

IMHO, I wouldn't worry too much about the air bags. I have yet to hear about one going off when it shouldn't have or one not going off when it should have. Make sure you get a good look at how the vents are covered on the custom dash job. I have seen a few of these done and to me, they don't look well done in that area. As far as removing the airbag, make sure you check the laws in your state to see what liability would fall on you if you did that and then sold the car like that.

I have thought about swapping my steering wheel to the club sport version that doesn’t have an air bag. Asked my dealer if a 23 year old air bag is still okay to use and they said it should be.
