Still going strong - Turbo at the track

A lot of those folks in front in what looked like newer more powerful Porsches - NEED to get out of your way.
Seems they where slowing you down!
Also your car seems harsh - bumps etc - on the corners - Stiff suspension i guess!
Good driving.

Newer porsches yes but more powerful I am not that sure
CUP chassi ! Harsh yes but my camera mount is a little to weak as well.
I like the 1st shot, rumbling at idle. RS engine mounts, the whole car is alive.
I really love that thing

You bet !
I have been out at the track with her a couple of times this season, even had some success at a local Time Attack event but I have some engine/turbo issues this year
So I have been out with my new toy mostly. I bought a 997 GT2... what else would you get after a 964Turbo
I mean really... what else ?

RWD, high power (my 964 has close to 440HP but even in standard trim the lag makes it feel like so much more than 320 !) and torque.
Hard to exploit the potential of these cars at the limit, challenging machines to drive fast as grip / power balance is more difficult to manage than in a GT3 for ex. But the potential is there. Just need even more faith in "the magic" of rear engine cars.
The feel of the car continuously thinking about killing you is there in the GT2 as well may be even more so on the road as the GT2 is so fast. On the track with good warm tyres it's pretty much equivalent, the GT2 has good traction.
Very mechanical feel in both cars, the GT2 doesn't "isolate" the driver from the road.
The GT2 is bigger and heavier (my 964T has been on a diet!), the 964 is more nimble (both my cars have upgraded suspension components). The 964 feels more at ease on small roads and tight tracks.
The GT2 has some extra help like TC but I tried them once then turned them off, they are poorly calibrated and feel downright dangerous. I drive the GT2 with no help except power steering, just like the 964T.
The GT2 has in my opinion close to no lag. Less lag then a Gen 1 997GT3 RS. It's down to gearing that will fir or not a specific track/corner.
Looks are subjective but I find both equally gorgeous.
What I like is that in spirit the 997GT2 really is the 964Turbo sister. May be with some fat on her but beautiful, faster, scarry(er?) and yes with that "old school" feel. You get that thrill out of driving both cars that I didn't get with the GT3. The GT3 just was not enough excitement (except for that gorgeous engine noise that makes you feel faster than you are).
I plan to keep both as long as I can afford them. Be aware though that the GT2 is even higher costs if you put her on track. A lot of tyres and brakes.

^PDK Squid. And I will let myself out now...
Vince, I've got the same cars as you and throw in a 87 930 and a '03 6GT2. I have say that the 6GT2 is the nastiest of them all to drive fast and control. And I ended up wrecking mine, fixed it, sold it and bought it back...
(And agree, the traction control in the 7GT2 is very unsettling.)

Those GT3s sounds great. I could just no stop revving up mine.
Bet you it was Porsche's goal, an incentive to push the owners to rev them up more since below 6k you basically have nothing
The 1st time I took her out to a track day, after the 1st session I opened the engine compartment and started to look for the torque ! Where did the torque go ?
But the Gen 2s are much better with the 3,8 and shorter gearing and broader wheel base at the front.

Ah 996 GT2 wreckage, you are not alone !!!
Looks like you have a great collection, congrats. I could add a 3rd one but not sure which one and not sure I have the time to take care of another car. I think it would have to be a cup car and that's way to much hassle to do on my own (used to share one with a friend for 5 years, great combo)
