Default A couple pre-road trip questions - oil filter and HVAC...

Guys-
Taking the car for a weekend spin up in the mountains this coming weekend - going to Ouray - twisties, amazing scenery....

So a couple questions....

Changing the oil - When I bought the car it had a bigger oil filter on it - bigger than the one that is spec'd - suggested by the shop in AZ. I have since changed it to stock at last oil change but want to go back to a bigger filter - I figure more filter is better, no? - anybody have suggestions which Mahle filter to get. I don't understand the differences between all the numbers frankly....

Next - HVAC - fun fun. Ok my system is charged with R12. I get nice cold air out of driver side and feet. Passenger side is warmer. Center vents you can tell it's blended with some warm air - the HVAC servos (2 and 4) are in the proper position for cold setting. Is there a hose that I should check to see if it's ripped and allowing warm in????

Thanks much

I've been there.....the locals won't know what a 964T is!

Oil change frequency is everything; filter size is meaningless. Some 964 people report hearing flow noises from the oil system when cold when using aftermarket filters. I use the Mahle filter and there's no issues.

Take the cover off the servos. Have someone cycle all the *****. Servos should be moving when the sliders, temp control and recirc ***** are moved. Better yet, have your mechanic put a Bosch Hammer on the car and see if he can read any codes. All that failing, check behind the carpet in the footwells, outboard sides of the car, and check the hoses going up; they tend to tear.
