Default BAD BOYS - !st place Pinehurst Mixed emotions

As some of you already know I repurchased the car, and with a LOT of help from Trevor Ely, brought it to 2nd annual Pinehurst Concours d Elegance.

NEVER even considered that the car would win. There were truly some amazing
cars in this class. When I picked up the car Trevor already had it detailed and wrapped up waiting for me. In previous days Bobby Stikeleather of Heritage Motorwerks had gone over the car mechanically.

Met some really nice people. At the show I had no cover and they requested the cars be placed the night before. Someone suggested I ask Jim Edwards, I did and he gladly produced a spare he had, he came in second. When I returned it we had a good laugh, great guy.

Now the emotional part. When I purchased the car, I swore I would never sell.
Then along came Mattew Drendel. Matt is know to many in the Porsche community and had a very fine collection of turbo cars. Some of Matt's cars were used in the tv commercial for the Panamara. Well Matt was extremely nice and very persistent. We spoke for several months before I finally caved in to him.

We became friends thru this transaction and kept in touch long after sale.
I had a health issue with my heart and had not spoken to Matt for a while. I was on Renn and read that the last owner had past away, I said to my wife , they have me gone already, then the shocker, it was Matt. I immediately call Bobby at Heritage and got the awful news, Matt had past away 4 months earlier.

I called back to ask about sale of cars, as I had an agreement with Matt if he ever sold I had right of 1st refusal. Didn't believe this could happen. I was put in touch with Matt's father Frank and we had numerous conversations about collection and this car. Matt wanted his cars to be offered to the museum in Germany. They looked over cars and decided they wanted this car. I felt it was my place to bow out and not get involved as this was my friends last wish.

Later the agreement with museum fell apart and Frank called me and said it's yours , make an offer. This is the reason the car never went to Amelia Island auction. We settled on a price and just had to work out details.

So the car is back, however I would prefer if Matt were back.

Glad you got the car back, but sad at the events that lead to it
Keep the car in good condition in memory of your friend

I think that the win in Pinehurst belongs to Matt.
Sorry if story seems so sad.....it's just the facts.

I am very happy to have back, but after 3 years of negotiations, I still felt bad when it was time to
load in trailer and take away.

When they came to me and said the car won, I was numb.

Thanks to all for positive feedback and remember Matt, he was a real passionate Porsche guy.

And a quick thanks to Anthony ( Cobalt ) . Tony has been aware of the repurchase for years and as I
asked him , always kept it to himself. He was always there for me to talk to about this.

Mike,

It was my pleasure. Looking forward to our reunion this summer. Although we need to take better pictures this time.

Anthony,

What's with the we? You were the photographer last time. At least we have the opportunity to
get together and give you a second chance. I'm not sure you can compete with the photos by
911 Jetta, take your best shot.....so to speak.

Thanks again my friend. Tell Frank I'll be there this summer

Congratulations again, Mike! Special way to start re-ownership, even if we'd all like to have our buddy back!

Look forward to seeing it again in the future!

Hey Trevor,

Can't thank you enough, without you, this event and win would not have been possible. BTW, I have still been in contact with Sandi, when you talk to her she can fill you in. She has also been a big help through
this process.

Hope to talk soon.....Mike

PS ......whats our next event?
