Just had an OEM 993 turbo S oil cooler installed to my turbo 3,6 today, took about 5 hours altogether, fairly straightforward, and definitely worth it!
With an ambient temperature exceeding 42 degree Celsius over here today, after having very thoroughly checked for any oil leaks, and after having made sure that everything was connected and worked as it was supposed to - before the front bumper cover was back in place -, I took the car out for a very spirited drive; the oil temp hardly rose above the 8-9 o'clock position. Before, on similarly hot days, or during very aggressive driving, the oil temp would normally rise to between 9-10'o clock position.
While the front bumper cover was out, as a precaution I also had the oil cooler fan resistor as well as the oil temperature sensor switch (for starting the oil cooler fan) replaced, just to be on the safe side.
I am sorry I did not take any pictures of the whole process, however I followed the instructions provided by various posts on rennlist, and especially the article by Bill Bennett (http://p-car.com/diy/oilcooler/).
VERDICT- MOST DEFINITELY WORTH IT - ONE LESS THING TO WORRY ABOUT.

Hi Jeff,
I bought the OEM 993 turbo S off ebay at a fairly low price, and wanted to try and see how effective it would be, before committing myself to buying a larger capacity aftermarket oil-cooler (i.e. Cargraphic). So far it has proven more than sufficient, and my oil operating temp is now at about 194 F, compared to about 240 F previously. Definitely very happy with the result, as oil temp is so important for the longevity of our air-cooled engines.
In case you need any assistance with your installation, do not hesitate to contact me, while everything is still very fresh in my head.
Best regards
Emilios

This is the same oil cooler used on the 94 turbo S and I have seen them come up for sale for around $750.00

I did it and mounted it right in the nose...but then got rid of the fog lights and put in the ducts to get more cool air over the oe cooler and a/c condenser.....works great. I run a 993TT engine in my car so I need it....

Any pics out there of it in a 964/5? Anything done to ensure air goes through the new cooler and not just around it?
On the 993 bumper, it is somewhat forced through the openings on the outer part of the bumper.

I think that the additional cooler goes behind the a/c condenser:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...t=phase&page=2

You want a pic of it through the grill.....???....all you see is the cooler fins through the grill....I'll check to see if I have one w/the bumper on and off...that might prove useful...its a pretty small cooler.
