Default Choice of Mods for a 965

Howdy,

What would your choice of mods be for a 965?
Only street use and some spirited driving perhaps.

Engine?
Exhaust?
Exterior?
Interior?
Suspension?

Limited to a reasonable budget. Not looking to make it to a beast or so.

Cheers

Headers, the right catalytic converter delete. .9 boost spring. H&R lowering springs and Bilstien HD shock absorbers.

Interior? As in stripping it out?
Otherwise it's the usual bolt-ons that have been discussed to death.

Nothing complicated. Just want something to go buy ice cream and feel comfortable and fun to drive.

So some simple modification:

- Headers, Cat and Turbo Spring. I guess this is as far as you can go without opening big wallet. (I'm talking about 3.3 engine). Dunno about the cat, but I think Rennlist search will answer that. Replace WUR.

- New suspension, lower springs & Bilsteins. Sounds reasonable, stock is probably nothing to get excited about

- Steering wheel might get replaced. Perhaps some other minor details.

Anything else that might be obvious improvements?

The steering wheel grew on me, if you are eager to replace a 996 wheel with the stitched leather airbag is a smart look.

FYI this requires that you replace the 964 steering shaft with a 993 steering shaft. The 993/996 steering wheel will not mount without this mod. Not too big a deal to do as it slots/bolts right in as a replacement ... worst part is breaking the security bolts out.

I would recommend doing everything you can without opening up the engine. Once you do that the costs start going UP more than a little. You can do lots of small things as mentioned above with time and budget restraints. Headers, cat by pass, suspension. even clutch, clean up car, wheels, tires, rotors, brakes can all be done bit by bit and you can have use of the car more often.

Just knew that I thought it was just bolt on

Wish the steering wheel would just bolt on as I have gone through this ... problem is that the 993/996/986 steering wheel hub is too deep for the 964 shaft so there are not a enough threads extending out of the hub to screw on the lock nut. The 993 shaft is longer at this end and the threads extend past the hub with plenty of room to thread on the lock nut. Fortunately the entire rest of the shaft - other than this bit - is identical to the 964 shaft so the shaft itself is a direct bolt on replacement.

I have heard of people securing with one or two threads and a whole lot of loctite red - but that is insane - image going through a turn and having the steering wheel pop off in your hands - whoops!
