Default 3.6 Turbo Engine reseal / service pics

A good friend and trusted mechanic has embarked on an engine reseal/mechanical restoration on my 38K mile 3.6. I purchased this car back in August '12 and after driving it for a bit decided that the oil leaks were getting bothersome enough to address, along with a thorough cleaning. Rear main, cam, timing chain boxes, valve cover seals are all leaking, and there are several other items that need to be addressed. Since leak down numbers are great, there's no need to remove heads, but several other mechanical corrections will be made to get this car back to being a reliable driver.

He's started a Flickr photostream which I thought you guys might be interested in following.

Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing. The oil on top of the turbo housing, is it coming from the cam chain housing? Or do you think it's from the turbo oil lines?

I went thru the same exact process with my '91 just few weeks ago. These are great cars and they need to be taken care of.

Beautiful car though

speednme, I'm not certain! Currently the biggest leak is from one of the PS lines from the reservoir.

The Photostream continues to be updated.

Heads are now off, and will be sent out. A few good mechanics have recommended that I have the valve guides done at this point. Gaskets from the heads out, misc oil pipes, hardware, and an RS flywheel/clutch kit have been ordered.

In the meantime, I am attending to a few cosmetic areas. The rockers, shark fins, and rear bumper are off getting resprayed as they have a decent amount of road rash on them. Brake calipers are getting blasted and repainted as the clearcoating is flaking off. The project continues. Hopefully she'll be back together in a month's time...

Underside of heads. 964 3.6 Turbo engines have an issue with exhaust valve guides, so they were sent out to Verden Machine for replacement.
