964 Turbo vs 965

My turbo has been called both, although the historian in our KC circle notes that my Turbo is correctly classified as a 964 Turbo. I think the turbo is fantastic either way.

As an enthusiast - I totally get proper terminolgy - my last toy - an Audi Quattro - people would (do) argue if it is a "quattro" or "Quattro" - I won't go into the details of teh argument but I get it. And it's a "Quattro" :-) (but I digress) This car - I know the story of the stillborn "965" project - but what I don't get is then why are so many part number prefixes "965" on our cars?? So I don't get it. Very contradicting..... 911 Turbo, C2 Turbo, 964 Turbo, 965 - how many names do we need for one model? :-)

Hi guys, we have talked about the subject several times ... the historically and philologically correct name of the car we love is 964 Turbo ... 965 is something different. The part numbers are called 965 'cause they were initially set aside to be developed for that project and instead used for the specific components of the 964 turbo program. There are also "911", "914" and "928" parts in our PET, btw. That said, call it the way you want but you outta know the story behind.
Cheers.

"The debate about the legitimate application of '965' follows from a failure to distinguish an object and the object's name. The 965 car was short-lived, but '965' survived to become the name commonly used to refer to the 964 series Turbos."

I wish my trunk plate said 3.6
Maybe this.
There is a 965 prototype and there is a 965.
I refer to my car as a 965 and when I do so, Porsche peeps know what car I have.
Do any other production cars use the 965 parts code? If no, then I rest my case. If yes, then I will come up with something else.

My window sticker from jan 12 1991 build date says its a 964 with model number 964770. So I have a 964 turbo. Unless you insist on buying a 965 turbo and then I will sell you mine as a 965.

You have a 964 Turbo.
He has a 965.
She has a 911 Turbo.
Great for you all.
I have a car loan, insurance bill, an angry wife, even an oil filter, but no car. Stoopid Reliable.

Ahh the anticipation due to a long wait will only make that day of arrival more amazing. Nothing like getting to sit in your 965 for the first time.
