Default Aftermarket Steering Wheel Info

Hey Guys,

I've been toying with the idea of an aftermarket wheel for awhile now and I think I'm ready to make the move.

I'm looking for a wheel that has a smaller circumference than the factory wheel and also one that feels beefy-er in my hands.

I've been looking at wheels on FVD's website (both with and without an airbag). I believe the factory wheel is 360 MM. The wheel pictured below is 350MM so it should be a little smaller.

If anyone has this wheel can you confirm if the actual wheel is thicker than the factory wheel?

Thanks in advance and happy holidays!!

Since you're ditching the airbag, why not go with a 930 S wheel?

You got a picture of it?

Not totally sure if I'm ditching the airbag yet...

Oh ok, I've seen that wheel before.

It is a nice wheel but I prefer the cup car wheel. It is not as bland as the 930 wheel.

I'm just having a tough time going with an airbag vs non-airbag.

I have that wheel in my car, Momo Mod 07. I have the Porsche motorsports version (small red Porsche lettering on the right spoke).

I never had the original wheel, so I cannot compare it, but I do have 2 things to point out

I found the wheel very skinny. I assume that it was designed for wearing driving gloves, but if you are not wearing them, it seems way to thin for me.

I also found the suede (it is real suede, not alcantara) will mat very quickly if you are not wearing gloves. Suede wheel and Suede palmed racing gloves give great grip. Suede wheel and sweaty palms give a matted down suede where you grip the wheel.

I sent mine to carsdream.com in Poland to have it recovered in leather and made thicker.. it should be sitting at the office (think it got delivered just before Christmas) so I will post pics of it here when I go pic it up.. Included a pics of the wheel before recovering.

Carnewal and FVD have nice looking airbag wheels. The 993 wheel is a visual improvement too.
I'll get a new wheel when I'm done hotrodding the engine, suspension, brakes, ect. because they cost so damn much.

I know this might be going a bit off topic from the OP, as you're looking at non airbag steering wheels...one that I had in my RSA that I absolutely loved, and would very much like to source for my 964 Turbo is the Techart steering wheel that uses the stock air bag hub. The diameter and thickness of the wheel are just right. Best of all it looked totally stock. I think that wheel was offered in the 90's but I've not see it since. The previous owner of the RSA installed it. If anyone have the same wheel and know of a good Techart source, please share.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Jeff, the pictures of your car is what inspired me to get this particular wheel. It looks so good in your car, I just couldn't remember your tag.

Thanks for your input and suggestions. I was thinking of sending it out to be mad thicker too if it wasn't thick enough. Looks like I'll be going down the same route!

Definitely post pictures when you get it!

OT. Shaker, where do you live, so I can come pop your gauge bezels off and paint them black for you..........an steal your new leather wheel. I am starting to wish I didn't want the safety of an airbag, all the $ I spent redoing my factory wheel I could have bought a cup wheel like yours!

Leave the doors unlocked and the steering wheel in the seat please. That will save me from having to lug a saw-zaw in to Canada.

Ooops! Sorry Jeff. I owe you a beer.
I know London's big enough that he can't easily find you...

Well, slight issue with the wheel when it was returned, but the guys at Carsdream.com stepped up to the plate and made it right.. Here it is, covered in leather and made thicker.. it feels great!
