Default Hardwiring a Valentine 1

Hey Guys-
So the cig lighter doesn't like to play nice with the power cord on my V1.

Has anybody hardwired a V1 (or I guess any detector) that can share tips? Good (easy) place to pull the power from? Switched power would be nice but no big deal....

Ohh another thought - if you hardwire a V1 - I'm thinking you lose the capability to use the remote hidden display, right? I don't use it often but its nice on night time roadtrips....

TIA-

Brandon

No you don't lose the ability to use the remote hidden display when hard wiring.

I hard wired mine using the radio power wire as pick up point and ran the cable under the rubber seal to a position by the sun visor. Nice and tidy. I had similar problems with the cigarette lighter and that was the motivation for hard wiring.

I've hardwired V1's in my cars (Audi, 993s) and IMHO the best source of switched power is for the sunroof or convertible top. The power is otherwise rarely used and it's pretty easy to tap into the center console.

BTW if you're interested in fabbing a more sturdy mount for the V1 rather than relying on suction cups, I posted the following a few years ago (car is a 993 so you'd have to have sun visors that can accommodate).
