Shooting flames is a pretty common occurance with our cars. Probably due to the short distance from the motor to the tail pipe and the ineficiency of the CIS fuel system.
About shooting flames from the waist gate on over-boost. I'm wondering about this one???
The waist gate is open when the boost pressure overcomes the spring pressure. When you shift, the waist gate opens quickly so it's just another exhaust port to shoot flames. Here's a page with a few video's. I'll shoot flames out the muffler or the waist gate pipe depending on how fast I shift.
