Post Warning - Take car for a drive after washing

I dont think any permanent damage but last week I was washing the car outside garage when it started to rain so i put the car away just wiping up body and put the handbrake on. ( Deep in the grey matter i can remember someone advising me not to put the handbrake on when car is parked up in garage in case brakes bind.)

Anyway i went to move the car a week later and the crunch from the brakes seperating from disc was a scary sound. <img src="graemlins/oops.gif" border="0" alt="[oops]" />

Getting out of the car the disks were that rusty colour and had two big dark patches where the pads had binded to them. You could feel about a
0.5 mm ridge of rusted on crap. (Car was only left for a week)

After driving for about 1/2 hour and constantly doing some hardish braking (Needed too with not very effective brakes that felt like sponge) it seemed to have cleaned itself back to normal.

So unless you feel like 1/2 hour of worry that you may send your pride and joy into the back of another car even at 10MPH remember to take car out for a short drive after washing so that brakes heat up and get rid of any damp. If your garage floor is level avoid using the handbrake in the garage.
