Post To Ruf or not to Ruf

I'm considering sending my late 964 C2 over to Ruf for conversation. After looking at the cost, I figure I might be better off just buying a 930 or 964 Turbo. Has anyone driven one of the Rufs?

Thoughts....?

Unless your C2 is a cab, you're better off buying a factory 964-based turbo, IMHO. The Ruf conversion is ~$20k and, if you decide to sell the car, you'll be lucky to get $35k for it. Nice 964 turbos are going for ~$45k. You can sell your C2, add $15k or so, and have a factory 964 turbo that will hold its value.

I qualified all of the above by your car not being a cab since, as there were no factory 964-based turbo cabs, doing a Ruf turbo conversion to a C2 cab is a viable option for those who want turbo performance with 964 drop-top ability.

I wouldn't consider a 930 to be a real alternative, due to the suspension, A/C and general drivability differences (no offense to 930 owners).

It really depends on what your intention is. If you are buying the car to truly drive it, then the RUF alternative is very viable and maybe even preferable. If you are buying the car to drive sometimes and are concerned with the resale value, then a 964 Turbo is the way to go.

The major difference between the two:

RUF RCT EVO (964)
- Conservative 425hp
- Motronic engine management (I can't stress enough how much a difference this makes)
- Legendary RUF car
- RUF Suspension
- Upgraded brakes
- Narrow body has higher top speed
- RUF aero splitter
- Resale value of approx. 70 cents on the dollar

964 Turbo
- Very boring power delivery in stock form, boost to 1bar makes things a lot more fun
- Power of 350hp and 380ft-lb torque at 1bar boost
- CIS injection is mechanical and extremely outdated now
- Wicked widebody looks, there is no car, not even a 993 Turbo, that gets the soul going like the rear quarter view of a 964 Turbo
- Stock suspension is pretty bad, the RUF or aftermarket alternatives make it a whole lot better
- Resale value of approx. 90 cents on the dollar

I went through the same dilemna myself. I was buying outright though. I ended up choosing the 964 Turbo just because you can always build a RUF RCT, but you can't always buy a 964 Turbo. They are so rare that I've been offered $5k more than I bought my car several times now *and* I didn't buy my car cheap

Long term, I do intend on getting a RUF Turbo R. I think the resale on that will be closer to 80 cents on the dollar as it is much more recognized than the RCT is.

Do I read that correctly? You can get the rct evo conversion on a N/A 964 for $20k?

The $20k figure that I mentioned was for the engine only.
