Post Dual mass flywheel

Hi,

I have a 1992 3.3l turbo and it has a dual mass flywheel. the car is smooth, but I am wondering if I can fit a RS clutch in? Will there be any gearbox rattle/knock back? and how much difference will it make to the performance?

Dear Mike,
If you are going to install a RS Clutch assembly I would recommend the single mass flywheel to go with it. I would see little benefit of installing a lightweight clutch and still have the slug of the flywheel. To gain any benefits you have to lighten the whole load.

Now that is a toughie. To be quite honest I have heard no complaints about the Porsche Factory RS clutch. I know this works well in a Turbo because it was fitted. I also hear good things about the Sachs competition clutches. However these are not cheap. I am sure there are much more informed and knowledgable people who have actually done this work on their Turbos. I would seriously advise you to shop around but please consider the factory parts. I know they last quite well.

Hi all,

Just interested as I know as the dual mass flywheel takes all the vibrations out the motor, I would lighten the whole assembly (clutch, flywheel, pressure plate).

A lightened flywheel and clutch is worth about 10% increase in power because of the Dynamic mass, that being that a rotating object has 4 times the mass of the stationery object. therefore if you can reduce the rotating mass then your motor will spool up quicker.

Thanks guys
Mike
