Talking RHD Turbos

Would anyone with a RHD Turbo please check the label under the hood to confirm the type number. Is it 964770 or something else.
Ciao,
Adrian

I rang my mechanic and he will give me the data in the next day or two - car is in New Zealand and I'm in Vanuatu.

BTW: Please repost the address to send the photos to.

Dear John,
Thank you very much. The 964 type numbers have expanded somewhat.
Anyway on your colour. Something is not quite right here.
92E is Polar Silver Metallic in 1993. It is a Special Order paint not a standard paint.
37X is Horizon Blue Metallic, also a special order paint for 1993.
Ciao,
Adrian

PS: The paint codes I have come from PAG.

I rang my Mechanic (remember the car is in another Country). His first reaction was that Porsche are never wrong, so either the car is Horizon blue OR it has been repainted. It would seem an obvious difference, but he thinks there is some blue in the colour so he will check today.

Personally, I think it has been repainted, the photos are obviously silver...aren't they?

I checked the options by using the following site http://www.kindel.com/Porsche/options.asp

At least the answers tie up with the car:
383 Sport seat - left
387 Sport seat - right
567 Windshield green graduated tint
650 Sunroof

John!

It is a little hard to say for sure with only photos. But it could still be Horizon Blue Metallic! I have a british car magazine at home from 1991 where they tested a 3.3 turbo 1991. If I remember right it was Horizon Blue Metallic that in the magazine looks silver. I will check tonight and get back to you.

Dear John,
My C4 is Linen Grey Metallic and most people think it is silver or gold depending upon the sunlight.
However Harold Gan up in Singapore had his C4 changed from a Metallic Blue to a Polar Silver Metallic. You can access Harolds web site via John Miles web site which I am sure you have bookmarked,

John!
I have now checked my british car magazine at home from 1991 where they tested a 3.3 turbo 1991.
They say it´s glacier blue metallic (32 Z?) and in most pictures in the magazine it looks silver.
I don´t know if this color was offered that year or in 1993 but that is what they write.

I´m thinking of the story about the man who sent an example of his wifes favorite nail varnish to Porsche for them to paint his new car in!
If your car was special ordered in some custom color. How would this appear on the cars color code in the service manual or on the label under the hood?

Now that is an interesting question Patrik.
Depends on when and how. If the 964 was painted before the colour change was requested then the only place it will show up will be in the original purchase documents. The paint was requested before production then the colour code should show up on the label but nobody will know what it means because Porsche do not publish these things in their available to mere mortals documentation. One can only guess.
I know of a 1989 Turbo Cab which had 450 options installed. They didn´t fit onto the label. Only the original purchase paperwork has this data,

Hi all!

What does the colorplate in the luggage compartments left side (near the battery) say? This should state your color name. On my car at least it says Amazon Green Metallic! Even if it was custom made OR painted before the colour change was requested Porsche must have put something on the colorplate. Did they even put one on? Or leave the colorplate name blank!

If the car has been repainted in another color the paint repair places might have removed the colorplate!

Dear Patrick,
You have a label in your 911 which actually says the colour name. That is a first for me. Is this a Swedish requirement or something. I would love to see a photo of this plate. Would make a valuable addition to the database.
I wonder who else has this plate.

Dear Adrian,

I have checked many 964´s and 993´s sold in Sweden and they all has it! I believed ALL Porsches had this colorplate. It's very interesting if only Swedish cars was equipt with it.

I put my car in the garage for the winter last sunday and took of wheels and so on. I will visit it (located at a relative) as soon as possible. I will take a picture of the colorplate and post it on this forum.

Dear Patrick
Mine has no plate near the battery and certainly nobody else has mentioned it. My 944 does not have such a plate nor did my old 924. Not to say it is not there in other variants or other nations. Very strange things have popped up since I started my research,

Adrian,

I have that same rectangular "decal" above my battery. It reads "guards red - indischrot" etc., etc. All of my later model 911's have had this same decal. My earlier 911's had the small metal plate in the door jamb w/ color code (like my 356 did).

This retangular decal shows the same codes that are on the square decal on the bottom side of the front hood of course.
