Guys, I would like to install a "different" than stock steering wheel. AJ USA has two wheels: 930S (non airbag) and GT (airbag). I prefer the non airbag wheel and was wondering if anyone on the list has installed one. If so, could you tell me how to do it? If there is a good-looking and feeling airbag wheel, which ones have you guys put on and where can I get them? I would prefer a leather 320-350 MM wheel. Thanks, Gordon

The RUF airbag wheel feels great and is available from www.weissach.com I tried it in my car and loved it. I eventually settled on a non-airbag Momo wheel that is 360mm in diamater.
I had to get the Porsche airbag test resistor (about $90 for a box with a resistor in it) which keeps the light off and keeps the passenger airbag operational.
I've been very happy with my setup because I hate the early 90's Porsche airbag wheels.

FC: Thanks. How much was the wheel and did you get the airbag bypass box from them or where? Also, the car has a Quaife diff on it. Doies that mean the 20% lockup on accel and 100% on decel does work any more? Thanks again, Gordon

The Momo wheel was about US$250 and the adapter hub was about US$50. The airbag sensor bypass was purchased from www.weissach.com. A Quaife differential would most definitely eliminate the 20/100 lockup LSD. The Quaife works on a torque sensing basis, so on throttle lift off, since there is not torque, I would assume that it acts like an open differential. This would give a reduction in steady state corner understeer or induce off throttle oversteer.
Personally, I dislike the factory 20/100 LSD. I would much rather prefer a 40/60 differential as used in some of the hotter Porsches.

If you search on the 964 list, you'll find information on installing a non-airbag steering wheel and how to fool the computer with the Porsche airbag test box. You can buy it from any Porsche dealer. The factory manual would confirm if the airbag tester which works on non-Turbo 964's would be the same for your '94 3.6.

I don't think this is the same as a test kit.
Get part # 928 612 220 00
I belive it pluges into the test harness under the access pannel in the pasangers foot well.
I think this tells the computor that it is a ROW car w/o an air bag.
If I remember right it is about $35.
It looks like it is just a jump (no resister)between plug terminal 3&4.

That's the one I ordered, but it has a painted metal crest instead of the embossing. I didn;t know you could still get those? Would you know where? Thanks, Gordon

These are generally on sale in a few places.
The previous one i understand was fitted to the late 944s I am on the lookout for one myself.

I'm putting the CS wheel in my 968 next week, got it from Sunset. It was around $400 with shipping, and to install in my car I needed to buy the turn signal/cruise control switch from a non airbag late (85.5-89) 944. This bypasses the airbag circuit so my light won't stay on.

Essential Styling has the wheel with the crest embedded so its flush with the surface. Does the 968 wheel from Sunset have the plain black embossed crest? -Gordon
