Post Bought 94 3.6 Black Black Modded

After about a year of contemplation between the 93 TT and the 964 (still am not certain on this 964/965 thing after reading a bunch of books.) I wanted one in an interesting color, but couldn't find the right car, miles and mods at the right price except in black with black and ivory piping. The car has 22,000 miles and has extensive suspension mods (Moton 15/15 clicks with remote nitrogen resevoirs, camber plates, blah, blah) and a bigger Koleln turbo, 1 bar spring, intake, Billy Boat headers and exhaust.

I got hooked on the "high end" shock setup when I put a set of Koni 2812's on my 95 Mazda Rx7. Found that at the right settings the car rode better than the Koni sport setup but cornered better as well. So, this $10,000 setup was a real plus. The car makes 390 hp at the wheels and should be faster than my Rx7 with 400+ rwhp, since the 964 has 400+ ft lbs of torque.

Thye car has the usual paint chips on the bumper and hood and the front edge of the rear fenders. Should I just leave it or bother respraying? From what I gather, it will just occur again. What about this 3M clear plastic stuff that's custom cut for the 964?

Anyway, happy with my decision. I paid about $58,000 for the car and could barely have gotten a stock 96 993TT with a lot of miles for the same price.

Gordon, welcome to the turbo 3.6 community.

Regards the 3M clear plastic - I have found a company in the UK called ARMOURFEND, who make either a full set or specific pieces for our cars.

Do a search and you can't miss them.

Happy porsche turbo motoring

Regards

Emilios

Why not do a respray of the front hood and bumper. You can remove these yourself, carry them to a paint shop, and get a fresh looking car for a pretty good price.

Could you please provide more details on the suspension modifications? I am particularly interested in your driving/track impressions

I haven't had it on the track yet, but will tell you that it makes a big difference. I use similar shocks on another car and nothging made as big a difference in the feel of the car on the track as the truly high end shocks that are double adjustable. I have Koni 2812's on another car and have extensive track experience with these. They only run $4850 for 4, whereas the Motons run about $6-7,000 a set and unlike the Koni's they have remote resevoirs. The Koni's only have 8 clicks each way, whereas the Motons have 15. The range is pretty broad.

I can tell you they are better, but will have to wait till a few track days to give you more useful impressions.

Jean,
what sort of mods did you do to your 3.6T? Curious. Also who did your 4wd conversion?

Jean,

Since you have both 964 and 993 style cars with the similar drivetrain, engine layout. How do you feel they compare?

Gordon,

Congratulations on the car! You can't go wrong with a 964 Turbo, in any variant.

I painted the front of the car and the side skirts, then put the 3M StoneGuard on the car. I had some peeling around the edges at first, they replaced it for free, and I have been very pleased with it for the past two years.

K27/29s hybrids
1 Bar boost spring
Upgraded oil and fuel lines
additional oil cooler
Evo B+ camshafts
Techart air intakes
B&B headers, and exhaust system
Hayward and Scott mufflers (Stainless British mfg)
Modified injectors and fuel distributor head
RS clutch + sport flywheel
993TT gearbox and transmission (conversion by JMAutos in London)
Techart suspension and springs (-40mm)
Gemballa strut brace
SPG Recaros
Cargraphic Race 19"wheels
GT2 wing, RS splitters...

As I mentioned earlier I did not get a chance to get acquainted with the car and I don't know much about 964-965s..but so far I am loving it!

But again, I am comparing a standard, smooth 993 to a modified 965. Since the gearbox is the same, not much difference in drivetrain elasticity, but a wilder boost. If this says anything, I am selling the 993TT!!
Sorry for this long post. Gordon, I think you have to be a member to post pics, try the "upload " button on the top of the screen.

Cheers

Thanks, Jean. I just joined and assume they'll email me a member number. I'll upload photos.

Jean, do you have pictures of your 965? Your mods are similar to those on the car I bought, less the transmission...

Kokeln Turbo
1 Bar spring
Boost gauge
CIS Velocity stack
European air intake
Billy Boat headers and exhaust
Stainless oil, fuel, and brake lines
Front and rear sway bars
Moton 15 click double adjustable shocks front and rear
Remote nitrogen resevoirs
Eibach 425/700 springs
18x9 and 18x11 Speedline Cup-style wheels
Camber plates with mono *****
Quaife differential

The guy did most of the things I would generally do. Nothing overboard, but a lot of good suspension work. I may change out the rear springs and need to get it realigned for mostly street use. With the Quaife its only good for club track days anyway.

However, the thing makes a fair amount of power, though I have never used the Koklen turbos and know little about them. The dyno sheet shows 394 hp and 408 foot pounds. I drove a friend's 993 with intake and exhaust only and it felt like a Lexus compared to this car. I would guess that 1 993 TT would have to be making about 450 or more at the wheels to get similar urge.

I am posting a couple of pictures of my car. The chips don't show up in the photos, but there are a few that I need to take care of and then get out my buffer and go over it.

It has been driven 2000 miles since that article (or Ad I must say). There have been a few modifications done after that article but the main work is featured there.
I have ordered a G-Tech Pro and will make a few runs, curious to see how does the car accelerate better, whether with the standard gearbox or the current 6 speed. I will post then my results and we will be able to compare cars with similar rwhp output.

Gordon, that car is beautiful, I would only lower it 30-40mm. Congratulations.

Jean
