Given all the talk regarding the problems with the turbo lag while on the track, I would tend to think that a RUF RCT EVO would be much more suitable for the track than the 964T. Especially shorter tracks. RUF has always had as their numer one priority to keep the turbo lag to minimum and also to make the power come on early and also smoother and more linear than stock, thus making the car much more driveable. I have yet to drive a RCT EVO myself but this RUF way of thinking is very noticeable in my turboR, which has less lag and much smoother power delivery (and comes on much earlier) when I compare how the car behaived proior to the turboR conversion. That's the beauty of the RUF cars - They are very driveable on the street while they still allows you to have fun at the track. :)

Hi,

I've recently been tracking my 965 and below are the changes I've done to the car. I've tracked the following cars (1988/1996 (E30/E36) m3's, 81 911SC, 96 carrera and finally this car. This is my first turbo and as I felt like a four wheel drive and twin turbo might be "cheating", I thought I'd be completely stupid and put my life in danger by going with the 965. However, after 4 events, I find the turbo to be quite linear and not an issue to handle at all. As far as my track times, I've moved up to the fastest run group rather quickly POC (track record at one of the events with 60 other Porsches). This is mainly due to the ability of the car, not my driving. However, I don't suffer from fear as much as I should which might contribute to the decent track times.

With that, here are the "mods" in order of biggest impact:

Tires: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 3's and these tires are not cheap but give excellent feedback and grip. This is where I would put ALL my money if that's all I could have done. Purchased used turbo twists (solid) to protect the speedlines.
Suspension: H&R lowering springs (ROW?) with bilstein HD shocks
Brake Fluid: Bleed, Bleed, Bleed!! I had my brakes go out COMPLETELY due to improper bleeding (even with superblue) so make sure you get someone who really knows what they are doing. I know, I know, you can do it yourself, but I I thought I did it right and almost died! I've done it successfully on all my other cars and no issues til this one. So, I ended up taking it to a Porsche Dealership Meister mechanic, one of only 27 in the country and no problems since.
Brake Pads: Pagid Blacks with stock rotors have not faded at all and inspire confidence. (I did this the same time as fluid bleed #4 as I was concerned about boiling fluid/overheating the brakes)
Heal/toe: Rennline pedals and all I did was the acclerator to ensure a smooth transition between brake and gas.
Corner balanced-


Considered Mods but didnt do:
Brake Ducting- None, standard scoops work fine and that was in 105 degree heat at Willow Springs short track.
Anti-Sway Bars- Stock
strut brace- none
bigger turbo- NO WAY as HP is not this cars problem!
Exhaust- better turbo linearity and HP, but didn't want to mess with smog and felt stock was fine.

Only remaining Wish:
Harness to hold me in my seat
Better Driving Skills

EVERYTHING else is completley stock and you should be able to have quite a bit of fun with the above mods. Hope this helps and this is only my opinion!

That video was awesome and had me smiling almost as much as being in my own 3.6 turbo. Actually, I was smiling a little more as it was your tires that you were wearing out and there was no risk of me totalling my own car!
