I own a 94 3.6 stock and an 04 GT3 stock. The turbo has a chance to only keep up with the GT3 when the turbo is on boost in maybe 2nd and 3rd but the faster you go the smaller the turbo gets in the mirror of the gt3. At triple digit speeds the GT3 is no question faster.

I never knew. Sorry to hear.

btw, this thread is fascinating. Can the timing bracket mod really make such a difference, and safely too?

Thankfully, I no longer have my 965 or I would be playing this never ending and expensive game!

My 50th is a couple of years away; when it comes I'm thinking of a buying a second car, a 996 GT3, 997 NA or Ferrari 360. The missus reckons Ferraris scream mid-life crisis, so the GT3 is one likely option that would get her approval. What relative use do you get out of both? In other words do you walk past one almost everytime?

The turbo is the end of an era for real craftsmanship, due to rarity I drive mine sparingly. The GT3 has second to none for mechanics, the car is just an engine mount for a great drive train and suspension. The 997 is better quality having said that, the 996 on era cars are a work horse that can be driven daily without guilt, if you bang it up just fix it. I drive my GT3 without a second look at the weather or road conditions, in addition I dont worry about parking it anywhere. The turbo I dont want anyone near it. If you are thinking standard non-GT3 997 forget it, thats a nothing car with no soul.

John McM, I see you have a turbo 3.6. Then I suggest a 997GT3, 996GT3, or a 996GT2.......nothing else makes sense as a stable mate to the turbo 3.6 That combo of cars is game over if you can put two of the above together. The Ferrari 360 is fun....until it lays down. The 430 is the way to go if you must, just more complete.

Thats exactly what I want to find out. Someone at FVD said that the gain should be around 15hp. The bracket itself isnt expensive at all, I just wonder if I have to unmount the gearbox to install it...

Although if your a torque fiend the only choice is the GT2. The GT3's are fun above 5k rpms but the lack of low end torque I find disappointing and they are far more nervous feeling. I found the GT2 to be similar fun factor to the turbo 3.6. Incredibly stiff and fast car. More power than the wide rubber can handle and it is a turbo RWD car. What else do you need?

Some bolt on mods and the 3.6T can become a rather fast car. Knowing how my C2 does against the GT3's at most tracks I am sure the added power and handling of my turbo would not be an issue against the GT3's. Although I agree in stock form they would leave me behind.

i hope i wasn't misleading about the modification...you should pull the gear box for the install...you do need to clearance the bellhousing section where the crank sensor bracket is...you are adding a bracket that will hit the bellhousing because it is longer than the factory...the modification will give the car a better feel through the whole power range...a gain of 15hp would be in the motor...like any modification such as this, you are adding timing to the motor, if the motor is not set up properly, than you can always hurt it....the horsepower that i made in my motor was not from installing that piece, it was just a suggection to vince964t.....vinnie

Agreed Cobalt the GT2 is the most similar to the old school 3.6 The Gt2 is the most powerful weapon out of the box for sure.

Spent a whole week-end at the track again.
The new turbo is actually pretty cool as power delivery is smooth.
The car was easier to drive as it was more predictable especially when it was raining.
Driving with less power sometimes isn't that bad.

The season is short in Sweden and ends in September. Don't want to miss any more of it so more mods will have to wait for next winter.

The action plan is :

Compression and leak down test. About time after so much track miles.
If the test is good new headers and cat bypass
Eventually 1 bar of boost but most likely not
Chat with my specialist regarding timing and ignition
New dyno run
Win !

Thanks for all the tips guys, very usefull.
