Default Noise from engine + oil leak

I drove the car a 100 km trip last week. It was then I first heard a wierd noise from the engine. It sounded like metal banging metal. Since my little trip last week, the car has been sitting in the garage. The car has leaked oil right under the engine, in the middle between the rear wheels.

A mechanic will come and pick up the car on a trailer wednesday this week, but meanwhile I'm scared like hell.

Of course, if the oil you see on the floor is from a hole in the block, then you have your answer!
If it is a rod bearing, the engine will need a complete rebuild. The total bill will be $10,000 U.S. give or take a couple grand, if you don't need a new crankshaft.
Just exactly what happened when you noticed the knocking sound?
I didn't notice anything unsual, I just heard a weird noise from the engine. First I thought the noise came from the car driving in front of me on the road. But when the noise still was there when the car had turned off, it became obviously for me that the sound came from my car instead.

I will go take a pic of the oil puddle tomorrow.

As mentioned, the car will be picked up wednesday. Meanwhile, I am just scared.

Don't be scared; think of it as the excuse that you need to build a monster 600 HP engine
If I were in your position I'd have to get started on robbing all the convenience stores in my neighborhood to fund a rebuild with all the goodies I'd want when doing one.

Pics of the oil puddle, the red ring in picture #2 indicates where the oil seems to come from:

How many miles do you have on your car?
Does it keep leaking while it sits in the garage?

That sucks dude....consider it an excuse to rebuild the engine yourself...now that would be a fun proect.

Wow!
This whole thing is strange, I really hope this is something simple.
Had a look at the rod bearings on a friends 964 turbo that spend some time on the track had 100K on clock or more. They where in perfect condition.
If you had oil starvation at some time it would make sense, but if not, it's really strange.
Good luck, keeping my fingers crossed!

Did clutch or pedal feel change? Possibly a dual mass flywheel partial seperation...
that looks almost like hydraulic fluid instead of oil, don't be such a wuss..with your
mileage it's doubtful it's in need of a major overhaul...

The car has now been sitting for almost 2 weeks, I haven't started it during this time. But I did today, and the noise was suddenly gone. I really wonder what it was. Didn't drove car though, but I bet the noise will be there again when the car is warm.

I am happy it wasn't a rod bearing after all, but it is some kind of annoying not to know where the noise came from.

I didn't notice any difference.

And then it came again.

I just started the car to let it idle to check if the noise would come again - and it did. Not at first, but after a while. I have earlier descirbed the noise as 'metal banging metal', but I would rather describe it as a 'vibrating noise'. It is very hard to locate the noise, it could very well come from around the intercooler, but it could also be from around the cooling fan. No scrathces or marks on the cooling fan though.

Probably just a coincidence, but I noticede the noise came as the oil pressure dropped to around 2.5; what should the oil pressure be when the car is idling?

It isn't related to the leaks but when my alternator bearing had some play in it a metal to metal noise started almost like pinging at a constant interval when the fan was hitting the housing. £80 for a bearing the first time and the second time £220 for a new alternator and bearing. If you are getting this noise you should be able to shake/pull at/twist the fan when the car isn't running to see the play.
