Default The origin of the term 'Turbo II'

I have seen cars (Turbo '91-'92) for sale referred to as a 'Turbo II'. I have seen 3.6 Turbos called Turbo II. And recently I have read a book where the 3.3 Turbo S was referred to as Turbo II.

What is the origin of the term 'Turbo II'?

If I remember correctly the 964 Turbo was called Turbo II from the start just as the Carrera was called Carrera 4/2 post 3.2... not in an official way though just to distinguish it from the old 911 Turbo.

After the 3.2 carrera came the carrera4 as it was 4WD, then they released the carrera2 which was 2WD so the new turbo became unofficially the turbo2.
