Suspension overhaul

Started last weekend on a complete overhaul of my front suspension / steering.
Everthing has been stripped till the steering rack. Will add / replace the following stuff

- new steering rack with boots
- new steering tie rods
- overhaul A-frame with Powerflex bushings
- power coat sway bar
- new Powerflex sway bar bushings
- new drop links
- power coat wheel carrier and protective plate
- check runout on hub carrier and brake disc
- Goodridge braided brake lines
- power coat H&R springs
- new Bilstein HD shocks

Anything forgotten?

Thx,

Geert

That is one heck of a list. Have you thought about replacing the wheel bearings while you are in there?

ghhally 02-19-2008 01:26 PM

Forgot to ask.
Who can give me the correct part reference number for a Turbo 3.6 brake line set from Goodridge?

Thx,

Geert

An update:

-Completely dismantled every single part down to the front bearing and ABS
sensor - every things is down to singles pieces.

Remarks:

- M12 instead of M14 bolts were used to hold the shock to the lower carrier mounting position - guess where I lost some adjustment between L/R? :banghead:
- right bearing small grinding noise
- no run out on rotors or hub to be checked after re-assembly :jumper:
- protective plates rotors need to be replaced
- rotors show some rust, mainly back side
- taking out the bushings A-fram is stuff but do-able
- new parts are coming in

Questions:

- any advise for cleaning up the rotors
- any advise on how to check the top mounts for wear and tear?

Till the next update

Geert

Scotch pad on the rotors?

stu.p 02-26-2008 11:51 AM

if the rotors are badly rusted in the inside you could have them skimmed but there is a minimum thickness tolerance which your not advised to go below so metal to be removed should be kept to a minimum, unless there are not that bad and can be emery etc
I would run a drill through all the rotor holes to clean them out to reduce scoring aswell

Had my first drive after the overhaul:

- new steering rack is awesome and realy feels different to the old one
- very direct steering, it feels like all play in the steering has gone, was expected with all part replaced
- did a brake pad break in procedure, runnig new FVD Trickstuff pads
- very solid, but pleasant Bilstein suspension
- do have brake pressure loss after pumping the brake pedal shortly 6 to 7 times, warning light comes on and goes out after pressurizing

:)

- try to understand why I couldn't get proper aligment settings in the rear as per following thread https://rennlist.com/forums/964-turb...ed-advise.html
- exchange wasted rear sway bar linkage
- refurbish rear brake calipers
- install new wheel bearings
- install new brake lines
