Indeed Sports Car International timed 0-60 in 4.25 (with 0-100 in 10.42!). Car and Driver timed 0-60 in 4.4 seconds.

Just an FYI for anybody who's interested in the delta between the 3.3 and 3.6...
Well I will say 0-60 in 4.25 seconds in a 3.3 is not happening no matter if your on a 10' down hill run. I can't get my 3.6 to do that with 430hp unless I drop my clutch at 3500-4000 rpms which I would never do. Car and Driver is another mag I never trusted their numbers on. Maybe a professional race car driver with optimal conditions can squeak 4.7 out of a 3.3 but side by side comparisons in stock form I doubt it can do it. These numbers you posted exceed the numbers published for the 3.3L turbo S lightweight. These are not drag racers and the toughest of all turbo Porsche's to launch. From a rolling start it is another story.

If you think about it a 300 hp ROW 930 can just do 0-60 in 5.0 sec and they weigh close to 400 pounds less than a 965 with only 15-20 extra HP. So I would say the numbers are close to accurate. I also think if they can get 0-60 in 4.25 sec they should be looking at a much quicker 0-100 than 10.42 (more like 9.42) IMO there is something strange about those numbers.

Consider that the 3.6 has the extra displacement and based on charts I have seen has much more low end off boost torque and HP than the 3.3 So in order to get a 3.3 to be as fast you need to be on boost at launch. Remove some of the restrictions or weight like the cat and it would make a big difference but everything I have read has these numbers as being close to accurate. It only takes a few bolt on mods to make the 3.3 a fast car it just wasn't quite were the 3.6 is stock. In either case none of these cars are super fast compared to modern cars of today. Every 10th of a second makes a big difference and todays cars are well into the 3.6 second range some even faster. Although once moving these cars have what it takes.

BTW the Factory press release packets for the US 91 turbo show 0-60 in 5.0 sec although the brochures say 4.9. then again the US spec cars had 5 less hp than the ROW so this may make a difference and my numbers are based on the US specs.

I seem to remember that Excellence Magazine tested the 3.3 turbo at 4.7 seconds. Car & Driver does tend to abuse the drivetrain in their tests and thus the 4.5 sec. number is probably as good as it gets. However, given those results, (including the 4.25 figure of Spots Car Int'l.), its fair to say that Porsche's "consistently conservative" 0-60 ratings can be beaten by almost anyone without destroying the car. Thus the 5.0 seconds figure (or the 4.9), isn't truly representative of the attinable acceleration, and to achieve that number doesn't require a race car driver.
Undoubtedly the 3.6 should be faster, based on displacement and higher torque. In my experience, where you feel a real difference of the 3.6 vs the 3.3 is in accelerating from 20-30 MPH on up, as in accelerating out of a street corner. In those conditions, the difference in torque is very noticable. It also makes the car easier to drive since you can accelerate in a higher gear.

Anthony, yes you can get off the line very quick if you drop the clutch at 4000. And there is no loss of traction, they just dig in!

When my car was stock with just decat, it was definitely quicker 0-60 than a 997S and that was on the dragstrip. 997S 0-60 is 4.65 (4.8 to 62). I was not as quick as a 996 turboS though.

Now, I am very fast

....although not as fast as some of the monsters on these boards

I agree decatting these cars can easily drop .5 sec or more off these cars to 60. So if the factory was seeing 5.0 and you drop .5 it makes sense your car would walk from a 997S. Trap speed would also be much different. I know my car will leave them quite far behind. The cat is the greatest restriction in these engines then the manifolds and probably the best low end improvement you can make. With decat and headers it makes an even greater improvement.

With the cat in place on my car one of my biggest problems was 0-20mph. The cat would keep the turbo from spooling and consume between 1.5 and 1.8 seconds until the boost came on, power coming on abruptly and catapulting you forward from there. Even with nearly a 2 second 0-20 I could still see 60 times of 4.8 seconds, at least according to the Gtech. Now with the 100 cell cat I am sure my 0-20 time is reduced by a min of 1.0 or more seconds. The car is much easier to launch now.

Hi all,

correct about the colour, horizon blue metallic (X37). Also correct about the uppercut from previous owner, I´ll get into straightening the smile soon, must look for the retainer...

It´s unbelievable how many 965 or turbo II enthusiasts are around in the US, I hardly see one over here in Germany. Did we export the rest years ago and, more important, can we get some back? Please?

Same down here in Stuttgart, there are only 2 965s around that I know of, one of them is mine and the other one is from a friend but he doesnt drive it too much. These are really rare cars here. I will have to organize a group buy to import some 965s back to Germany again from the USA, the Euro is strong at the moment

A few of us UK 965's are planning a trip over to the autobahn and Ring in May/June so you will have some more 965's in Germany soon (at least temporarily)!

Wow slow down. There were more ROW 965's made than US variants we don't want to loose all of these great cars to you guys. I already know of a half dozen going back. Although this is like a reverse of the 1980's when so many Porsche's left Europe because the dollar was so strong.

How about we trade you back some SC's and early 930's.
