Default help!!.engine reving very high on start up!!

hi guys, just installed my engine 1992 964 3.3 turbo after rebuild, when engine eventually got fuel through and started the revs shoot very high to at least 3k++ at which point i keep just turning the engine off as i dont want it to rev any higher!!(tried it loads of times and keeps doing this)
i have removed the air injection from my car aswell,,checked throttle body which seems to be just a small bit open which i think is normal? and throttle cable seems to be slack...any sugestion where to start checking???...hope yous can help!
thanks

I took out the larger of the two vacuum lines going from the intercooler to the vacuum disc bolted to the intake just below it because I thought it wasn't necessary. My car did the same thing at idle so I re-installed it.... Don't know it this helps.

wow that below the belt ! Flachbau

As it happens all the main work on Stewarts engine has been done by genuine Porsche engine builders !

Stewart check that you have no joints or pipework that is drawing air as this will let the engine rev .

Check the axillary air regulator. Sometimes it sticks tapping it will return it to normal. Mine stuck open and idle was always around 1500 - 1800 rpm. Easy replacement.

Big thanks to the guys who give the positive input which may help!!,,cheers again!!,,i am a toolmaker/precision engineer to trade and owned now five 911's,do most of my own car maintenance(although servicing left to porsche specialist for history),built a couple of vw etc engines before but admit never built a 911 turbo one before..i did remove the engine myself and stripped it all down to just the crankcase, installed new crank bearings, arp conrod bolts, fitted new arp head studs, machined on my lathe the damaged cylinder liners, installed pistons/rings into liners...N.B one of my fellow engineering workmates gave me a hand with some of the jobs that would be impossible to do without the extra pair of hands..few pints i owe him!
Next step,as neale says i sent my engine down to mb engineering(check pelican for details) "mike" down in the lake district in england has been working with porsches for about 30 years,,building/preparing the likes of 935's group b 930's for race days etc,now he owns his own garage down near kendal..Mike installed my modified cylinder heads and set up timing on my new sc profile cams..i then got the engine back sealed up as a "long block".
I have now fitted inlet/injection and the which seemed like hundreds off connectors and pipes etc etc,put engine in place and high reving has occured on start up!!!......"here was me pretty happy with myself aswell with all the work i have done over the last few months"well maybe not eh.. lol.. ..maybe next time i should give all the work to my local dealer at £100($200) pounds an hour....No chance!! I would get my hands dirty every time!!!..at least i now know what jobs have been done Have been done!!!

"If people like us didnt come up with problems like we get with our cars, these forums would be boring places and probably wouldnt exsist!"

stu.p, I am so in awe of people with skills like yours. Good on you for doing the work yourself, I'd love to if I had any ability whatsoever with a spanner. I bet the satisfaction of getting it running after rebuilding it is the best!

Cheers kusee pee,,bet you also could manage a lot of jobs yourself, especially with the help of the good guys you meet on this forum!!
hardest thing bout these cars is getting room to get a spanner on the parts!!,,good job they are great cars or a bet you there would be a hell of a lot more for sale!

I agree completely with that statement. The ones that don't work are usually the cheaper ones for sale (this excludes the RPM caliber cars of course).

right ok!!....got car started and sitting at good rpm,,,noticed the throttle flap was lying slightly open(may have bent the throttle linkage when removing)..adjusted linkage so flap is as good as shut and car sat at good rpm...so looks like our throttle bodies should be as good as shut for correct idle...
got another problem now it seems so new thread on its way!!
