The wood trim would look very nice on a roll cage or harness bar as you transorm her from luxury to a track mate

Frank,

I would ship the car to the Porsche Doc in Lenexa KS before the final voyage across the pond; that way you know it's in pristine mechanical condition...

Back to the original thread subject:
Hemikuwait, interested to hear more about your comparison of the 965 against the modern turbo. Tell us more about the handling and acceleration of each. Are our turbos as old fashioned and incapable as some would have us believe?

great timing ADDICT, just came back from my first highway trip in the 3.6 with a buddy that had purchased a 997 TT simultaneously with me two weeks back. With his engine fully broken in we did a few 3rd and 4th gear sprints. The 3rd gear run outcome was pretty shocking, he coud only get 2 car lengths (for the duration of that gear only), 4th gear runs he managed about 4 car lengths. Basically...3.6 exceeded my expectations by far! It was never the "he blew me away" situation i was expecting. I would love to find some actual mid-range acceleration figures of both 997tt and 3.6t just for comparison. Handling wise i could say this...997 reads the surface inconsistencies, while the 3.6 reads the actual surface. The mental image i get of the road by way of steering feel is very, very vivid in 3.6. Body roll seems the same....honestly. Hard to believe but yes, honestly body roll feels the same in both cars. However one advantage that goes towards the 997 is that my friend was very comfortable at holding a steady (and prolonged) 130 mph on the freeway, while i was definately feeling uncomfortable at that speed (lack of 6th gear, highish rpm, wind noise, light front end)
But how many times am i gonna hold her at those speeds anyways??

Nice comparo! But I am surprised about 130 being uncomfortable at speed. I've had my 964 C4 up to 140mph and it was very steady.

BTW, congrats on making the right choice

You should try 170mph then. It's white knuckles time.

That's good to hear - I was on my way to chop the 965 in for a 997tt but now I've got two reasons not to...the other reason being the small matter of £80k

when i say "uncomfortable", its relative to the 997tt...which was extreeeeemely stable at speed,
and sal965: nice car was it featured in totall 911? I read that article upteen times before the purchase!

himikuwait,

do note however that many of us have got rid of the standard suspension to improve the 'nervousness' at speed.

White knuckles? No way! At a VIR DE my car was seeing 140 on the front and 150 on the back straights; it was steady as could be.... I think you made a great choice; the collectable feature of our cars makes them that much better!

Hemi, you are goint to love that car. It looks to be in top condition.

Your 3.6 T is stock? I agree stock suspension is white knuckle for sure over 115. Upgrade the suspension and add splitters 140+ all day long. Took my turbo out yesterday, first time since November. After driving the 911 I forgot how fast these things are. Feels very heavy and sluggish compared to the 911 but open her up and the entire car, just pure harmony.

These truly are most underrated Porsche's.
