Better to buy a '91 - '92 turbo or hold out for a '93 - '94

Seriously - You should be able to find a clean 3.6T sooner rather than later.
I waited 2 years to find my mint 9K mile 3.6T here in Australia - and only 12 vehicles were sold here by Porsche.
I nearly gave up looking and put a deposit on a 993TT !

I drove a 993TT and prefer the "rawness" of the RWD 3.6T. It all depends on what you are looking for. I also think given the rarity, the 3.6T will hold it's value extremely well over the long haul. Enjoy the search!

I think I'll be able to find one the issue is that the 965's have become highly sought after cars since they are the last of the rear wheel drive single turbo's Porsche produced.
Porsche built a lot more 993TT's then the 965's. I might have to rethink everything if the 965 prices begin to get too inflated.

I think Sloan is a little expensive as well. I searched all of the online places, Pano, etc. and just kept my eyes open. I found a 92 964 turbo with 33,000 miles on it locally here in Denver. The car was orignally from New York, and had been modded, but the interior and exterior are perfect, and the car has been meticously taken care of. There are a couple of minor things I need to take care of (replace all 12 of the plug wires, plugs, adjust the mixture due to the alititude, nothing extensive). I paid $41K for it.

To add to Bill's comment... we purchased a red w/tan '91 here in Raleigh after about a four month search with 28K on it earlier this year. It is completely original with all of its service history, manuals etc. It needed absolutely nothing. We paid just south of $46K for it.
I suspect the 3.6 cars will hold their value a tad better than the 3.3. Give the price point difference to get in, we opted for the 3.3 can. They appear to be a solid value and, as many have pointed out, very good every-day cars.

Oscar,
That's the one! It's the left front you're referring to. The lip has been rolled under. It has was replaced. The previous owner told me it had been "touched up" but didn't offer any more details. That's one reason we offered them $8k less than they were asking for it. We're going to role it back out this winter and touch it up if necessary along with a few stone chips on the hood. Aside from that, it seems to be in great shape. We bought it to be driven and not a show or collectors car so I'm not disapointed with its condition.

Actually these numbers are wrong. Did you get this from Adrian's book? He issued a correction some time back.
The total number of 1994 964 turbo 3.6's built to US spec was 466. Not all of these made it to the US some were imported to the America's but not all to the US market. The first 288 were M718 coded using P code engines and the balance used the R code engines. Most sources double count the M718 cars. Absolutely no difference in the cars and all were built prior to December 1993 and considered 1994 MY. This number also included the 19 Package cars and 39 Turbo S Flachbaus. These are the cars listed by Richard Sloane. The Turbo S Flachbau has shown to sell for high pricing and in the 4 years I have been looking at these cars I have yet to see a Package car sell so who knows what future value they will have.
So in total there are less than 400 94 turbos available. I have info on numerous cars that have been totaled and several with salvage titles. In all I would guess about 350 cars still out there and of those 50% are in good to Excellent condition. Many of these cars were factory delviered in either Black, Red or Silver exteriors. The special order colors are less common because Porsche limited these colors to customer orders only so unless you like the primary colors the special metallics are even harder to come by.
I agree with what others have said. If you plan on moding the car extensively A good 3.3l is just as good to start with. The only real noticeable difference you will find is additional low end torque which makes the car easier to drive around town or in traffic. Both cars have dated suspensions and you will find a major improvement by upgrading the suspension and headers. By the time you are done with a 3.6T you are easily into 993TT pricing. I personally like the 993TT but love the lines and feel of the rear wheel drive single turbos otherwise the 993TT is next on my list of all time favorite Porsche's.
Good Luck in your quest.

Excellent input...Thanks to all.
Once I get this other house of ours to sell I'll search hard and find the right car for me. At this point I think I'm OK with either a 3.3 or a 3.6. I like to mod the car anyways and I think both would suit me perfect.
Once again, thanks for all the feedback!
Brad,
Michigan - crap economy!!
