I have just been reading an article in the latest ( October 06) edition of Total 911, the article features pictures of a very nice yellow 3.6 from a fellow lister. Anyway the article goes on to say that a 964 turbo is incorrectly described as a 965, could someone please explain this to me.

Not an expert but, I believe that 965 was a project that Porsche planned to replace the 959 but dropped. The 964 turbo (aka Turbo2) has been 'nicknamed' 965 by us enthusiasts due to its timing (ie. born around the same time as the 965 was expected) and that some of our parts are codenamed 965....
So our cars are 965's "colloquially" not officially.
...and most importantly they are 911 TURBOS !!!

Oh boy, we had this debate 10 years ago. Look at the part numbers of the car. Like any Porsche there is an internal number and a guy who I have not seen on the board for years had a letter from Porsche stating that the 965 was the internal number to the 964 turbo just as the 964, 993, 996, 997 and so on. So as far as Porsche was concerned it was 965. Publications are not always correct.
