Default Front tyre width?

Now that my car has had the balancing done, the high speed handling is much better.

However, still finding the steering a bit too light and sensitive.
Can't afford the full Bilstein and H&R set up just yet, so was wondering whether a set of 215 tyres instead of my current 205's (I have standard 17" Cups) would make a difference with the extra 1 cm. width?

What do you mean by light and sensitive ?
I would change alignment before changing tyre width, also if you measure wheels you will find that some of the 205's are as wide as 225 and that other factors of the tyres probably will influence more than +-1 cm IMO.

Hi Staffan,
I just had the wheels aligned. The front settings are now:
Camber: Left: -0'09 Right: -0'08
Caster: L: 4'14 R: 4'04
Toe: L: 0'13 R: 0'13
Total toe: 0'26
Steer ahead: 0'00

Seems pretty balanced to me, but what do I know?

What I mean is that when I'm going fast (100+), the steering wheel is very sensitive, could be because I have the slightly smaller clubsport wheel? Maybe I'm being too critical.

PS: This is 100% better than how the car felt before the allignment done.

Hmmm, is that toe-in or toe-out ?
If it's toe-out they made a mistake, should be at least 0 toe or rather a little bit of toe-in. Running with toe-out on these cars makes them very "twitchy" and nervous.

The camber and caster is okey for driving on the street, for track use you want more negative camber.

Also, a few years ago I had a problem with the car being very sensitive at high speed, it was very sensitive. Someone suggested checking the tire pressure, didn't think it could be that easy, but to my embarresement I found I didn't have enough pressure.

Thanks for the good advice as usual. I will have a word with the garage about the 'toe'.

Today I went for a fairly long and fast drive and the handling was very good. In fact when I was going straight even though the s/wheel felt a bit twitchy (uneven road), I let go of the wheel and the car went dead straight. Maybe I'm being too nervous and critical?

The ONLY concern I have is if I am doing a very fast long curve then I feel the steering feels a bit too precise.... (I am of course comparing it to my old 3.2 which did not have power steering!)

PS: Just spoke to the 965 man at JZM and before I told him what Staffan said, he said that although my car was set to Porsche standard settings, the toe in is often increased to make it feel better. I'll get it adjusted next time its in. Thanks Staffan for the pointer.

Nathan,
No, still running the standard Boges.
I'm pretty pleased with the improvement now, goes really well :-)
