No, you must get the correct tyre profile which makes the external diameter as nearest as possible to your stock tyres.

Well Mark, that is what was done on the 935 race car. The great Norbert Singer saw a loophole in the rules when racing and increased the dia. of the rear wheels and kept the profile height of the tyres the same so also the external dia. of the tyres was also increased.
The rules stated that they could not use wider rubber.
The larger external dia. of the tyre gave the car more grip as there is now a larger contact patch for the tyre to the road (letting air out of your tyres also does this & is why some of the drag racers look like they have flat tyres).
Doing this will certainly alter your speedo and will also alter your castor angle. I am not too sure on the 964 cars what effect this will have as I do not understand how the later cars like the 964 and on use castor.

I would suggest you lowered the rear of the car to keep the rake of the car normal.

You will of course have to notify your insurance company.

Here's a thought:
How would 16" Fuchs wheels work (ie. original 930 wheels)?

My initial thought is acceration would be improved although top speed lowered. (In fact this is what they used to do with original Mini Coopers).

One would have to play with the springs (and possibly spacers) but the look could be nice and low, aggressive and classic as well. Anyone done it?

Always loved the ol Fuchs. Unless you have some wider rubber, you might actually have a hard time getting traction on acceration. But it will be a tight fit with the 965 brakes anyway.

I once owned a '91 C2Turbo and replaced the 17" w\ 18" 3 piece speedlines. No spacers needed and looked great.

Wrong offsets, impossible to fit.
Bigger is better !
Cargraphics look great IMO.

Get some Ruf 18" Speedlines like mine. You could try mine on to see if they fill your wheel arch
