Had a message on answer machine over just before the weekend to say was being posted, waiting on that parcel.

I have been putting WD40 on wastegate nuts tonight to try and get them easier to remove when it arrives. The nuts look well rusted.

Any suggestions as clearance is not that great either? I feel bruised knuckles and cut fingers on the way!

Cheers

Last night I went over to see JBL930 (Jon, another rennlister) to see his wastegate bypass ...and his car in general.

He took me for a drive, and even let me drive it for a while (I was VERY careful!). Its a 930 with near 500 bhp!!

The acceleration was awesome, but no harsh power curve, just one smooth delivery all the way. And what really got me was the way the turbo surge just went on and on (whereas the standard one peeters out in the higher revs, doesn't it?). Frankly it was like a missile, when I got back in my 965 afterwards it felt very tame. Not surprising when you think his power is up 50% on mine, and a lighter car too.

Anyway, the sound? surprisingly it didn't sound that different to a standard 930...except when the wastegate bypass came in on boost then it sounded great. The best description I can say is its a pure high revving sound, louder and more metallic than normal. Special.

I'm convinced that's what I'll try next, as it just at high revs and load that I want the drama and keep it subtle otherwise.

Glad you enjoyed it mate, as I said it's the stealth approach, nice and quiet off boost and vicious sounding when on, I hope the scart unit gives you the same sound, I would contemplate fitting a dummy tip somehow and then fitting the scart 930 wastegate pipe, you'd be sure to replicate the sound then, I’m pretty sure our wastegates are identical albeit mine has a 1bar spring, that has to be your next upgrade Mark, you know it makes sense

Just checked the invoice on my exhaust work. The b***tards put on a cat bypass instead of a sports cat! Shame....

I've now placed my order for the w/g bypass with Hayward & Scott. Will post update when all done.

As long as you only paid for a bypass...

Got my car back from JZM today, they couldn't fit the w/g bypass 'cos the studs were rusted too badly and to remove and make good will cost £400!!!!
I want it fitted but not at that price.

So as I drove home, I was unimpressed by how quiet my car (still) is!

PS: They agreed that my car feels faster than normal and is likely running with 1bar spring.

This is why I had to buy a Tial, my nuts were all rusted too. I was too lazy to drill out the studs...

If you buy a new w/g, don't you still have the challenge (or expense if you use a garage) of drilling out the rusted studs anyway?

btw, how much is a replacement w/g, Tial v. Porsche?

It's not that bad to remove because the nuts snap off. However, if you want to reuse, you have to then drill them out. I'd replace with Tial or turbo smart, and get JZM to give you back your old wastegate and drill the studs out yourself, in your own time. Then clean up and flog on eBay. A clean Porsche WG is worth quite alot.
