Also looked at the website for Tial, and am wandering about the Tial blow-off valve. I apologise in advance for being thick (I'm not technical) but I presume this is different to the above Diverter valve. If so, should one look to replace with the Tial for the same reason ie improvement on the original equipment?
EDIT: Tial Wastegate

It's not necesarry with the stock turbo & stock style heat exchangers.
You don't need it and will get no benefit.

Yes the BOV & the Wastegate are too entirely different things.

The wastegate is on the exhaust & the BOV is on the intake assy.

He means the BOV.

I brought my tial wastegate and BOV from "Jon Mitchell Porsche"... Also known as "9XX Porsche" in my town, Bournemouth UK.

Both items are sold specifically for the 964 turbo and were quite reasonably priced and came with technical support backup direct from Jon Mitchell, who is pretty well known as a Porsche tuning guru as well as being the owner of the local Porsche specialist garage in this part of the world.

Both parts fitted just as explained (direct plug and play fit)... I just need to sort out my fueling and I will be able to report back on the performance.

I just hope the performance gains of running 1 bar of boost and the dump valve will put as much of a smile on my face as when I brought a similar kit from 9XX for my 944 turbo last year

Both the standard Bosch/Porsche BOV on my 944 turbo last year, and my 964 turbo this year had failed.. both causing a vacuum leak.

On the 944 turbo I tried a Bailey and then a forge dump valve before I settled on one from 9XX.. I found that the bailey had issues which caused vacuum leaks after 10,000 miles. The Forge one occasionally stuck open which caused a loss of boost which took ages to work out.

Don't you just love faults that are only ever there at 100mph+ when on boost. Its not easy to work out once the car is back in the driveway and you have the tools out!

Nathan,
You said "It's not necesarry with the stock turbo & stock style heat exchangers.
You don't need it and will get no benefit."
Reading the posts from Sonny and Rennbod, they seem to be using standard setup (except 1 bar) and are getting/ expecting real gains.... Is it or isn't it worthwhile?

I think what he is talking about is the Tial waste-gate. This would benefit the car with an improved turbo and exhaust system.

The BOV will be beneficial to all Turbo cars, including my stock one.

I do find the uprated BOV helps keep the turbo spooling during gear changes... On other cars I have found the dual port tials have helped the turbo spool up and less wastegate creep or high rpm boost loss.

Which of these bypass valves are you guys using, either OEM or aftermarket replacement?

- Bosch 0 280 142 108
- Bosch 0 280 142 110
- Bosch 0 280 142 114

It is my belief that people just love to spend money on heavy and loud aftermarket trick blow-off / by-pass / diverter valves, the louder the heavier the shinier the better.

As far as substance goes, is there any reason to prefer anything to a new, fully functional Bosch 0 280 142 110?
