how do i check my oil level properly

how do i check my oil level properly
to check the oil on a 965 turbo 1991 do i
1. warm up engine to around a 1/4 on the needle by driving the vehicle
2. park car on straight ground, leave engine running and after 60 seconds check dipstick 1st by wiping clean then reinserting and checking
or am i suppose to switch off the engine after warming leave for 20 mins and then check

Drive around so the oil is at 194F/90C (like the pictures I posted in the other thread). Then you want the engine running and at idle speed (880+-?RPM) for at least 30 seconds before you pull the dipstick, wipe it clean and reinsert it and then check the reading (all while the car is idling)
