Hmmm...for the same money, would I rather have a higher mileage 1994 3.6T in good condition or a 1992 3.3 Turbo with low miles in excellent condition? I think I would take the former.

Consider that you are paying a premium for a low mileage car, so every time you drive it the value will go down. I enjoy driving my car too much to have to worry about the effects of further depreciation.

If you are interested in a garage queen that will only accumulate anouther 15- 20,000 miles in the next ten years - it might be a reasonable price. Just remember, the low mileage car will likely be in better cosmetic condition, but the effects of time will still impose higher than new car maintenance costs.

I totally agree with Jeffrey. As much as I would like to be biased for the '92 model, for the same price you could get a '94 Turbo 3.6, in good condition but with higher mileage, which is a better car overall.

If you don't drive it that much (2000 miles a year), it might be worth it, and don't do any mods that is reversable. These cars need to be in original condition to keep their values up.

Good luck,

Sonny

Rather then start a new thread, just figured I would jump in on this one.

I am looking at a 91 964 turbo, black, with 38K miles. The car seems to be priced very nicely compared to some others I have seen. I'm going to check it out tonight, what do you guys think this car is worth assuming it is all clean and in good condition of course? Thanks in advance.

When i was looking for a C2 turbo i drove both a 1991 and 1994 back to back at a dealership in OH and to be quite honest i did not feel any difference at all.
If it was my i would rather buy a low mileage, well maintained preferably one owner car, period. Now as far as the price goes a nice low mileage 1991/1992 will cost you about mid to high 40's and a nice low mileage 1994 would be atleast mid to high 50's.
When you buy a high mileage car you pay less upfront but you pay quite a bit down the road and with low mileage although you pay more upfront but then you get a car that smells & looks new and doesn't really need much maintenence.
If you need a collector car go for the 1994 but if you want a nice C2 Turbo then buy the 1991/1992 and with the money saved go put some headers/exhaust/1 bar boost spring along with a nice set of wheels and you got yourself a big ever lasting grin.

To give you an idea, I bought LT's 92 C2 Turbo last month for $43,500.00. The car had 30K and was all original and in concours condition. I think it was a fair price for the quality of car I bought.
The problem is that there are very few cars for sale at any given time. If your willing to travel anywhere across the country, or buy something sight unseen, then you'll have a little more selection.
I was not willing to buy something without seeing it and have it transported across the country. I traveled 125miles to New Jersey from New York because it was one of the only few cars around.

The fact remains that you should buy a car that you love and your comfortable with the deal.

Thanks for all the replies everybody. Apparently it was a pretty good deal, I called Monday afternoon to make sure the car was back from the detailer as I was on my way to check it out. The salesman I had been working with informed me that he just found out a deposit was put on the car through another saleman Saturday night, and that individual was on their way to finish the paperwork right then.

The asking price was $36K which seemed pretty low to me considering the miles. I did get a carfax and the milage was valid, it was a single owner car. They had just listed the car on Friday, and I saw the ad on Sunday. One day late, just have to look for the next one.

Buckeye, the one thing my experience in buying and selling cars has taught me is that there is always another one you'll want just around the corner, keep looking!

Strange as it may seem with only a small number of cars actually made, Trader220 is right on regarding these cars. Sometimes missing out on the first one helps prepare you for when the right one comes along and believe you me they do show up more often than you would think. Keep doing your research and figure out what is most important to you. When the right one pops its head up be prepared to place a deposit and set the terms.

Good Luck

Thanks for the good advice. I have taken a few road trips to get the right car before, I had my eye on a black 964 in Indy but wasn't quite ready yet so I didn't make the drive. This most recent car was in town and seemed like a really great price for the mileage so I didn't want to just pass it up. I am preparing to unload my other "weekend" car, a 94 300ZX twin turbo, in preperation for when I find the right one.

Off topic question, under user CP I am able to change my options and avatar, but I haven't yet found where I can modify my signiture. Is this an option not yet available to a new user, or is it just right in front of me (<-most likely ). Thanks.

By the way, beautiful cars I have seen around here so far. Can't wait to join the "club" with a nice 964 turbo.

From what I have heard they have recently eliminated signatures for new users and are only available to members. Apparently a lot of bandwith was being consumed because of the pictures being added to the signatures by new users.

Low mileage doesn't necessarily mean the car is in mint condition Another point is $36,000 asking price seems too low for a car that has low mileage and is in mint condition and that makes me wonder if that car had any issues ?

Right, I wasn't under the impression that it was in mint condition with that price. I was expecting possibly a few leaks here and there (from having sat for a bit) and maybe needing the usual maintenance stuff. But that really doesn't bother me too much because I used to work at a local Porches shop years back while I was still in school, and I plan on doing some mod work over the winter anyway.

As long as the car was for the majority solid/straight otherwise I figured it would still be a pretty good deal since the carfax was clean and the previous owner was local (not an auction car). Unfortunately I never even got to inspect the car in person so I guess I will never know.

Thanks for the info Cobalt.
