Thanks for the info.
Saving weight on the rear wheels is always very tempting and I very rarely stand still in traffic. I will have to talk more to the mechanic next time I am due for service.

The screaching noise by the way is really scary, last time I fired her up while warm to get back on the track everybody looked at me like if the whole car was about to blow

I saw you pics in the other thread - your car looks very good! Did you polish and wax? If so, what did you use?
JBH,
I use Griots clay and then their Carnuba wax. Smells good and gives a great shine!

Unless you are looking for ways to reduce weight (they weight about 5-7 lbs each), I would replace them.

Just to share some info on the topic.
I still haven't done the repair as I am waiting for service.
The noise got so bad on track this week-end it spooked me out. Took out the "switch" to disable it and went out for a few more track sessions. Big difference in engine (oil) temp after 15 minutes flat out, the car had never run so hot.
Looks like it's the wrong way to save a few KGs since I would need an additional oil cooler to compensate.

That's useful info. About a month ago several of these blowers came up for sale on eBay. I bought one for $71 and replaced the one I had earlier cleaned and lubricated. Seems now, that was the right thing to do.

Definately not the same.

I replaced mine earlier this year and I think the blower fan is the same as that used on the 3.2 Carrera.

I got mine from Type 911 in Beckenham. If you look on their website the picture for the 964 ( http://www.type-911.co.uk/images/general/964fan.jpg ) one looks completely different to the 965 one ( http://www.type-911.co.uk/images/general/fan32.jpg ). Their picture link for the 965 one is the same as a that for the 3.2 Carrera.

Jeffrey,
Do you have a link to the motors you found on ebay?
