New Rotors on a 1994 Turbo 964
I want to tackle changing the rotors on my 3.6 Turbo, front and rear.
Being that there are no repair books on the '94 964 Turbo, can anyone steer me towards some info on what's in store and/or a manual?
Also, are these going to be the same as a Carrera C2 in the rear?
thanks!

Michael,
Changing the rotors is really not hard, though I find it easier to have a second person handy. The trickiest part is removing the calipers and it is for this where a second person comes in handy. The basic procedure:
Remove wheel
Remove brake pads
Losen caliper bolts (two bolts hold it on)
Remove countersunk screws on rotor
Have 2nd person hold the caliper and remove the retaining bolts
Move the caliper gently out of the way so that the rotor can be pulled off and the new one put on (your helper holding the caliper is in charge of not breaking the solid brake lines - be very careful)
Reinstall the rotor noting the correct direction of spin (the rotor boxes should be labeled left/right, but in case you miss it, the veins should work to "wick" the air out).
Reinstall is reverse.
PM me if you need more.
Two months ago or so I replaced the front rotors in <30 minutes. That included the time to jack up/lift the car and remove the wheels...

Thanks Doc,
My car's got 18K orig miles and is somewhat modified (400 hp last dyno) but I want some longevity on this next set of brakes/rotors.
Is OEM the way to go? Who's got the best prices?...these Pelican Prices seem outrageous:
911 C2, C4 and 993 Brakes - Page 3
Brake Rotors
Rear Brake Rotors
Rear Brake Rotor, Left, 911 Turbo (1991-94), Each
N-352-041-00 $251.00
Rear Brake Rotor, Right, 911 Turbo (1991-94), Each
N-352-042-00 $251.00

Try vertexauto.com. I think the price is $199 for the fronts, and the rear is a little more, last time I checked.
I need to to this on my car soon too.

Sonny

Thanks for all the help gentleman!
This car is babied and never has seen a track, so I opted for a full set of OEM ROTORS AND PADS...Vertex Auto.com had the best deal going and were real helpful. I'm looking forward to this operation as it's always fun to dig into my baby.

problems with Vertexauto
I contacted vertexauto.com this morning about my order for OEM rotors and pads and they said "those are the wrong prices on the website...$2 over our cost, We have to adjust the price!"
I cancelled my order.
Any more ideas for decent online parts without the Bait-and-switch?

Not like this will help you much but ive just order a rear one in the UK. its 90GBP ...so whats about $160dollars... which i dont understand because ive been ordering alot of parts over your way and sometimes has worked out 50% less including the shipping. either way we all dont get the same fair deal.

Just a note of thanks to all who chimed in about this procedure! Changed all rotors and pads (OEM drilled discs and Pagid Sport pads) yesterday with no hitches...one tip: on the fronts leave the Pad retaining Clip in place for the whole procedure, this keeps the pads firmly in place during reinstallation and makes it fast n smooth.

If you used OEM rather than genuine Porsche rotors I hope you spray painted the rotor 'cones'. Porsche parts won't rust, but I've found that Zimmerman's need to be painted with gray hitemp paint to prevent this from happening.
