Looking for Wheel Size Advice (91 Turbo)
Hi everyone...I was hoping for some advice on possible wheel options for my 91 Turbo. More specifically, I'm looking for 8 or 9x18 (front) and 10 or 10.5x18 rear wheel sizes (my tire choice is RS04 245/40 front and 305/30). I did some searches but had a hard time finding anything specific to what I'm after, so I thought I'd try a new thread...
Are there any "factory" options that would work?
Will the 996 offset work for a 91 Turbo?
Thought I'd add a little background for what I'm into:
My goal is to set the car up primarily for autoX and secondarily for the track. Car currently has a cup style suspension. Wheels I'm running at the moment are 8x17 w/ 235/40 and 10x17 w/ 275/40's. I've got the smaller diameter linear springs (450 inlbs front 600 rear) so front clearance is not "to much of a problem". I had 9x17's with 275's up front and they would fit (with changes to the fender liners). I'm going to go with the 245/305 split because the car is currently a little too loose (can't dial it out with the sway bars and tire pressure). The reason I'm not going more then 10.5 in the rear is I don't want to backdate the trailing arms to the C2 style. The turbo's have a larger arm which pushes the rim out (tried a 11" wide rim...not going to work). I might go there but only if I have too.
Anyway...starting to ramble. Any advice welcome!

Jeff,
I have the hollow spoke wheels from a 993 turbo on my 91 965. They are 8x18 and 10x18 They fit perfect in the rear and I use a 15mm spacer in front to fill out the fenders. They are strong, light, and if you shop around cheap (1000-1800) I also have a set of BBS RE in the same size

I had the 996 non-hollow-spoke turbo style 8x18 ET 52 and 10x18 ET65 on my '92 C2T, running 225/40's on the front and 285/30's on the rear. They fit with no problems and with no spacers. The car was more "darty" with those on, even after a four wheel alignment. I have since put those wheels on my narrow-body 993 and put the stock 17's back on the Turbo.
Those are the 18" wheel sizes from the narrow body cars (but I think there's a half-inch width difference between the 993 fronts and the 996 fronts). I beleive that the widebody 996's and 993's use 11x18 ET 40 on the rear, and I really doubt that those would fit.
The Ruf 18" wheels look great on a C2T, but they're a little too pricey for me.

Thanks everyone! As I do more reseach, I find myself leaning more towards back dating the rear swing arms to a C2 part. It seems I would have more options since most of the wheels I'm seeing for sale are 11" rear. BTW...The "upgrade" path I'm trying to follow is the for the 911 Turbo S lightweight.

I really like the specs for a fun track/street car.
I'm curious about the difference between a 993 18x10" rim (40 mm offset) and a 996 18x10" rim (65 mm offset). That's a big difference but they both sound like they fit. If I understand this right, the 65 mm offest would be the better choice because it will get the rim out farther to fill out the wheel well better.
Anybody know of any (hollow spoke) rims for sale?

Jeff,
Your thinking on the offset is backwards. The offset is the distance from the centerline of the wheel to the mounting surface. You could easily use the 65 with a 15mm spacer. In fact that is what I do with my BBS RE wheels (65 offset with 12mm spacer) in order to run 295 mpsc's (they rub the fenders with the 40 mm offset wheels)
