You know I was going to suggest contacting Sameer, he always has the answers. He could probbaly give you a more accurate idea of Hp.

Sameer do you know the CI of the 964 IC?

Hi Fellas,

That looks like the small B & B intercooler to me.

Go to

www.bbtriflo.com

click on "Car Applications", then "Porsche", then "Intercoolers".

That's what it looks like to me anyhow.

It is certainly a B&B standard fit (short neck)

Guys,Anthony,

I got this off the Kokeln website, I'm sure most of you'll are familliar with it.

JFYI:
The Kokeln Intercooler is the finest, most efficient intercooler on the market BAR NONE! Kokeln Intercoolers produce lower intake temperatures and higher flow than any other intercooler due to a larger cooling mass, superior design and greater efficiency while retaining the factory air-conditioning! Comparison of the Kokeln Intercooler to other products on the market revealed the following:

Test Result

Charged side face area in square inches Cubic inch mass
Stock 21.4 258
Andial (Garretson) 72.6 508
Ruf 53.5 498
Kokeln 73.0 642

For comparison purposes a test was ran on a stock 1988 911 turbo at 5000 rpm with an outside ambient air temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit and turbo flow rate was approximately 430 cfm. The results were as follows:

Intake Temp Outlet Temp Pressure Drop
Stock 218 151 .50
Andial 220 120 .50
Ruf 220 119 .50
Kokeln 222 109 .48

Fits in the stock location, with Air conditioning, can flow as much as 900 CFM @ 2.6/1 pr Ratio with less than 1 psi drop

For all '78-'89 930's
Turbocharger and Intercooler technology have improved dramatically in the past few years. The Kokeln Intercooler uses the latest technology in every aspect from the core material to the bypass valve assembly. The bypass valve included in he installation kit replaces the old cast aluminum valve (7 Pounds) with the latest bypass technology. This valve (less then 1 pound) bypasses more air faster than stock and provides boost approximately 1000 rpm sooner.

Kit includes: Intercooler, bypass valve, bypass sleeve, rubber elbow and all mounting hardware and fittings.

WOW,

Significant differences. I have always heard great things about the Kokelin unit, those numbers tell it all.

Sameer, do you know how the larger factory 964 IC stands amongst those numbers?

Too bad the comparison doesn't list the C2T or either of the B & B intercoolers, I'd be interested to see how they compare. FWIW, I have the Ruf unit, and it works well, as any will when properly shrouded and kept clean inside and out to ensure maximum heat transfer.

Anthony,

From what I've heard, although the 964 C2T intercooler has a larger surface area, it's volume is about 500CI.

I would have to assume you are correct on that. The depth is nothing comapred to the Kokelin unit. I beleive the S models had a similar design with greater depth and increased CI's.

cobalt: I actually got to see the receipts for the car. It has the K27 7200, the intercooler that started this thread, 1.0 bar spring, powerflow intake and an aftermarket exhaust. The car did have leaks a couple of years ago but where all fixed at that time. The car was bone dry from what I saw. Of course it will still go to a PPI if I decide to move forward. I forgot to mention that the car also has the updated C2 turbo bumpers and rockers w/three piece wheels. I am trying to get the seller to come down to 30K but he isn't budging (wants 32.5K). There are no dyno sheets so I am still not sure on the 400 HP claim. It might be at 400 HP but the A/F ratios can be way off. Any more advice? Thanks.

Koklen told me that their intercooler is a tad more efficent than my stock c2 unit but was not worth the expense. I did however, decided to buy the "s" intercooler from ANDIAL to complete the "s" conversion. I do not know if it was worth the expense but it sure looks good.

She sounds nice. Although from a resale angle it has been changed from stock to look like a C2. This makes it harder to sell if you decide to later. Do you mind me asking how many miles on the car? I have seen some nice stock 91-92 C2's with higher mileage sell in the mid to low 30's. If the mileage is high you may want to look at some 91's. You will be getting relatively the same car with updated electrical wiring. Coil over suspension, air bags, and better A/C if that is important to you.

Do you mind sharing some pics and info about the "S" IC? Do you need to change the tail to accomodate it?

The car in question has 79K miles. Once I have a 911 turbo it isn't going to get sold. It has been my dream car so once I have one it won't be let go unless unforseen circumstances arise. It is the right combination as well. Guards red w/black interior. Here's a picture.

Very Nice indeed.

I understand what you are saying. I did however say that about my last 911, it did take me 19 years before I sold it but I did sell it.

Whoever did the work looks like they did a very nice job. I am surprised, it looks like they even went as far as to change the rubber on the spoiler to the 964 turbo style vs the 930.

I'll post some pics in a few weeks (car is still in the shop). Congrats on the Cayenne TT!
