Contemplating trade: 964 Turbo for 997 GT3 RS
Glad to see some great discussion in this thread amongst 911 enthusiasts! In reference to a 997.1 RS vs 997.2 RS, I have driven the .2 and I didn't find any, if it all, any difference to my car. Maybe it's more noticeable on the track, but in terms of day to day street driving, I didn't see the difference.
About my car- I was able to purchase it from a friend before "the bubble". I got it for a really great deal, under sticker, with low miles. He didn't drive it much and I was able to buy it off market. It was my dream car, and for me, I really wanted white! Definitely didn't want orange (those they're cool), same with viper green. A little too loud for my taste. I bought the car to drive, and within my first year I added aa decent amount of miles. It wasn't in investment purchase then, and it still isn't now. Three months after I purchased it they were on BaT for $300k. Still had zero desire to sell. I'll continue to drive my car and enjoy it! After owning 30+ cars, nothing comes close to the experience of a 997 RS. But I have always wanted a turbo 964, so the thought crossed my mind. I have driven one, and to be honest, it was a fun car, but I still don't think it hits the same at high RPM. But- it's such a damn cool looking car! haha.
@bweSteve 54k miles on that GT3 is nothing, that car should be sold. I have a friend who is picking up an almost identical .2 GT3 (non RS), for about 190k and it's a creampuff with really low miles.

that makes sense too... that your buddy can pick up a much lower mile .2/3 for $190k. My buddy's car should be around $175k in my opinion, maybe $170k. So yea, a $20k difference could make sense to someone.
Cobalt (here) & I just spent a couple weeks helping a buddy of mine dig into two 964 Turbo's. Both rare & fun metallic colors. One was waaaaay over priced )clearly hoping to find someone who is not knowledgeable & buying on passion impulse.
The other one was a good car & sold within days (Amazon green at GRP asking $369 & I'm sure got very close to asking). Hope that helps.

Comparisons of any two cars from 2 different generations and several years apart, really can't and shouldn't be done.
Our 22 year old son was all smiles when we returned from an early morning drive today in our modified 997 TT (Bilstein's/tuned/exhaust)
When asked about this one or the 964 Turbo, he responded that's not even a question dad, 964 Turbo every and all the time
964 Turbo is a special car and hard to drive every day where as, the 997 platform is much newer and easier to drive.
I agree with Igooz, add and not sell!

The 965 is something that has to be experienced.
My son is a Porsche service advisor. He gets to drive everything and he still wants my turbo over anything. Although he would happily take any 997 variant GT2/GT3.
