Default Seatbelts

Should seatbelts be replaced? I noticed some fractures in the brackets that attach to the top of the door pillar.

Porsche appears to be backordered on these.

Who has replaced them and did you go with OEM or something else?

When it comes to safety items, I only replace with OE parts. Those parts were what your car was certified with.
I had to go as far as to re-order all the fasteners and bushings for my seat belt mountings when I refurbished my interior, just for that reason. The shop that installed an interior for the previous owner threw whatever at the job and it was a mess.
I also ended up buying OE seat mounts rather than cut and weld the seat belt mounts on the old mounts for the very same reason.
I recommend buying the OE stuff and waiting for it. Meanwhile, you shouldn't drive your car in the meantime.
Can you attach pictures of the brackets? It's a little strange that those would crack and your car hasn't been in a huge accident.

I can’t really tell if that is a decorative plastic surrounding a metal bracket? If so maybe it’s fine. If so it could be a product of sun exposure……

same as above

I think That's a soft coating cracking on the exterior. I agree with Paul there's nothing like OEM. After accidents threads break loose where they over lap the material. Those over lapping threads weaken over time. I just had my belts serviced by a company that restores seat belts from accidents. Their work is 100 times better than 30 year old seat belt but quality doesn't match OEM 100%. They are not going to be in business year after year if their work didn't hold up to DOT safety standards. You won't get that new piece that has surface cracking. New belt material is $100 per belt at Safety Restore.

Yep, there's metal under that cracking plastic. You can replace the belts if it bothers you, but the damage there is cosmetic.

Thanks for the input @Metal Guru @Scott Dunavant and @spartansix . I think I agree that it is a cosmetic problem. Appreciate the advice on sticking with OEM and or having the belts restored should I ever need to do that.

Love Rennlist!
